Role Summary:
CITY Futures is the grassroots soccer platform for St. Louis CITY SC. Through a variety of programs, CITY Futures works toward the following goals:

* Make soccer accessible to all in the St. Louis region, particularly in underserved communities

* Promote life skills through holistic soccer training in safe environments and through a network of well-trained Futures coaches

* Introduce soccer to new communities to build a broader and more diverse fan base of the sport

* Support healthy communities in the region through soccer

CITY Futures coaches are the key to our programming. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about soccer and about making a positive impact on the lives of children throughout the St. Louis region. We train Futures coaches in our unique curriculum with social and emotional learning built into every session plan. CITY Futures is also a community of coaches who are committed to the goals of the program and to personal growth on your own coaching journey.

Our coaching philosophy:

* Play/Practice/Play: We emphasize playing as the best way to learn the sport - training sessions have a lot of games/playing and fewer drills.

* Social/Emotional learning: Every practice incorporates social and emotional skills into the session plan - we intentionally teach these lessons through soccer.

* Guided discovery: Coaches are trained to lead group discussions through questions and cues, helping players reach conclusions about topics on their own.

* Positivity and fun: Everything we do should be fun, and we seek to frame things positively in the language we use and the way we interact with each other and the players.

Futures coaches will primarily work in the Play On program, which offers free, weekly training sessions and limited weekend games for players ages 7-12 of all skill levels and from all backgrounds. These sessions are held at five sites around the region - for more information you can read here. Each coach will be assigned a team of 16 players who they will work with throughout the ten weeks. Futures Coaches will also have the opportunity to coach in other programs, including Kickstart, Street Soccer, CITY Schools, CITY Cup, and Play On+. Additionally, coaches can continue their education through our paid trainings in the Coaching U program.
