SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Behavioral Health Clinician (BHC) position is situated within a primary care environment, where the Behavioral Health Clinician (BHC) plays a crucial part in evaluating and delivering services or making referrals for patients identified by their primary care and specialty care providers. The Behavioral Health Clinician provides both brief assessments as well as traditional evaluation and assessments for various behavioral health and case management challenges, which encompass a range of issues such as depression, anxiety, oppositional or conduct disorders, suicidal thoughts, attention deficits, hyperactivity, bullying behaviors, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, severe emotional disturbances, and the management of chronic illnesses. Following an initial assessment, the BHC will offer direct services to patients experiencing mild to moderate behavioral health issues and will either provide internal referrals or connect patients with suitable community resources. The BHC is responsible for delivering outpatient therapy and integrated services, in both service delivery lines the BHC will assess, diagnose, provide intervention and follow up plan. Additionally, the Behavioral Health Clinician is responsible for providing evidence-based treatment and care which includes communication with treatment team and ensuring that patients receive appropriate and effective care.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Assessments, evaluation, and screening for services for children and adults
  • Brief, focused counseling in the clinic for mild and moderate emotional and behavioral disturbances, as well as chronic disease management
  • Education and counseling with the family related to the child's emotional and/or behavioral concerns.
  • Complete treatment plans including goals for treatment.
  • Referral to outside behavioral health services as needed for moderate to severe conditions.
  • Follow up with families as needed to support treatment adherence.
  • Coordination of care with the primary care providers
  • Provide ongoing treatment for behavioral health needs as appropriate.
  • Maintain documentation of assessments, screenings, treatment plans, progress notes, and documented follow up information.
  • Report treatment objectives & other performance data to organization's leadership for grant reporting
  • Participate in joint, quarterly meetings to review grant performance and outcomes.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Graduate of an accredited four -year college or university with a Master's Degree in Social Work, Master's or PhD or PsyD in Psychology, Counseling.
  • Hold an appropriate degree and licensure by the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board in Kansas with a reimbursable specialty- Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW); Licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW); or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity in working with diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to following all legal and ethical guidelines and standards of the profession and of Vibrant Health.
  • Good working knowledge of behavioral medicine and evidence- based treatments for medical and mental health conditions.
  • Ability to work through brief client contacts as well as make quick and accurate clinical assessments of mental and behavioral conditions.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Must be available to work evening(s) to meet the needs of patients and their families.
  • Have an energetic and positive approach to the rapidly evolving changes and challenges of a complex clinic-based setting.

PREFFERED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Be comfortable with the pace of primary care, working with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Good knowledge of psychopharmacology.
  • Have flexibility in assigned working hours.
  • Ability to speak Spanish proficiently.

  9. Hold current drivers' license and reliable transportation.
  10. Travel to all parts of the facility and throughout the community.

  • Travel throughout the metropolitan area and service delivery area is required.
  • Position involves extensive use of computer, telephone, fax, and copier equipment.
  • Must be available to work evening(s) weekly to meet the needs of patients and their families.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful clearance from Criminal, Kansas and Missouri Child/Elder Abuse and Neglect, Sex Offender background investigations, TB testing, pre-employment drug testing, and verification of Hepatitis-B, and flue immunizations.
  • Occasional evening and weekend availability are required.
