Job Summary:



The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking applications for a Finance and Accounting Senior Professional. This full-time, University Staff (non-classified) position will be responsible for providing accounting and financial activities for the Department of Emergency Medicine. This includes providing advanced accounting, finance, and analytical support to the Department through complex financial analysis and modeling, trend analysis, financial reporting, and accounts payable and receivable activities.

This position will be responsible for assisting with day-to-day financial operations of the Department, including purchasing, invoicing, general accounting, reimbursements, and contract administration. In addition, Finance and Accounting Senior Professional will provide oversight on and on-going process improvement efforts associated with incentive plan compensation.

Key Responsibilities:

Incentive Plan Administration (50%):



  • This position is responsible for implementing and administering the Department's four incentive plans, which includes data collection, calculation, and payment of incentive compensation on a quarterly basis.
  • Utilizes various databases and departmental resources to compile and validate data for payment calculation or analysis. Performs audits of all data sources to confirm accuracy and functionality of system/process.
  • Builds complex formulas to calculate incentive payments based on incentive plan provisions
  • Maintains current and historical records for all four of the Department's incentive plans
  • Identifies and presents opportunities for process improvement and automation. Reduces redundant and/or manual processes wherever possible by enhancing the current system usage
  • Generates internal documentation on incentive plans, reporting guidelines and incentive related FAQ, and manages related inquiries


Payroll Administration (30%):



  • Responsible for tracking, maintaining all regular earnings salary for all department staff.
  • Complete monthly reconciliations to ensure payroll is being allocated appropriately per department guidelines.
  • Complete funding distributions and payroll expense transfers as necessary to maintain general ledger accuracy.
  • Improve tracking of regular earning salary to maintain historical records.


Departmental Finance/Accounting Duties (20%):



  • Assists with day-to-day financial and accounting activities pertaining to purchasing, invoicing, accounting, deposits, and reimbursements
  • Manages accurate salary allocation for faculty and staff
  • Assists with maintaining and updating the Department's financial database
  • Develops and prepares various accounting and financial reports
  • Other ad-hoc duties and assignments as requested
  • Oversee student position to ensure necessary assistance to this position is being completed timely and accurately
  • Performs extracts, validate, analyze, and report on data from a variety of systems and data sources.
  • Translate complex business needs to technical specifications



Work Location:



Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 2 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:



  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, business, business administration, finance, healthcare administration, public administration, statistics, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Four (4) years of professional, progressively responsible experience in a finance related role
  • Advanced experience working with Microsoft Office Products
  • Experience working systems such as Smartsheet, PowerBI, Human Capital Management, and PeopleSoft Finance


Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • A master's degree in accounting, business, business administration, finance, healthcare administration, public administration, statistics, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Higher education accounting or finance experience
  • Experience with database systems and analysis of data


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, sufficient to create, maintain, and update financial spreadsheets, databases, and budgets using complex formulas and functions.
  • General knowledge of accounting and financial management practices
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, analytical, time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills are critical.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced, customer-oriented, team-based work environment. Must be able to effectively organize, plan, and prioritize multiple competing work activities under pressure.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group and competing interests.
  • Ability to tolerate a high degree of ambiguity yet work effectively to fulfill the mission, goals and objectives of the department.
  • Advanced analytical abilities and skills to address significant issues and demonstrate judgment to resolve complex problems.
  • Strong problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to represent the University in a professional manner with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to understand complex systems and guide other personnel with regard to their use.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, strong work ethic and commitment to high standards.
  • Strong financial management and ability to manage funds from a variety of sources.
  • Knowledge of various CU, CU Medicine, UCH and University policies, rules and regulations pertaining to financial matters.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as Hiring Range: $64,337 to $81,836
