MH Physical Therapy Assistant

Summary:

Responsible for providing direct patient care based on treatment plan established by Physical Therapy Manager. Performs in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures. Follows the facility's standards for ethical business conduct. Conducts self as a positive role model and team member. Participates in facility committees meetings in-services and activities.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Carries out treatment plan as prescribed by physician and developed by physical therapist.
  • Operates therapeutic equipment and devices including crutches walkers exercise apparatus canes iontophoresis electrical stimulators istodex traction and heat/cold modalities.
  • Documents care and other patient information for medical record including history treatment consultations.
  • Complies with department policies/procedures and regulations related to infection control safety quality improvement.
  • Assists with exam/exercise room cleanliness equipment maintenance supply inventorying/stocking.
  • The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to job position.
  • May supervise Physical Therapy Aides Volunteers Students.
  • Perform all other duties as directed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Minimum of one year experience preferably in clinic setting. Successful completion of clinical affiliations.


  • Knowledge of physical therapy principles standards practices.
  • Knowledge of how to use physical therapy equipment and devices.
  • Knowledge of policies regulations.
  • Skill in appropriate compliance with PT's instructions.
  • Skill in using all devices effectively.
  • Skill in appropriate compliance with infection control safety and QI standards.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients families staff and establish/maintain effective relationships.
  • Ability to use effective clinical problem-solving/decision-making by careful observation of patient and recommendation of appropriate treatment changes.
  • Ability to use departmental systems properly to maintain organizational effectively including computer scheduling.


EDUCATION:



  • High school diploma Associate's Degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant.
  • Successful completion of accredited Physical Therapy Assistant curriculum and current state
  • PTA license; CPR certification required.


Working Conditions:



  • Primarily treatment/exercise room setting. Exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to therapy setting. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk; stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop kneel crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit or stand.
  • May be exposed to various patient conditions including infectious diseases blood and bodily fluids. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Considerable physical activity related to patient care including standing bending stooping reaching. Must be able to lift/carry equipment up to a 100 pounds and to move apparatus as needed. Requires ability to transfer/transport patients safely. Occasional stress from dealing with patient non-compliance.
