POSITION SUMMARY:

The Research Operations Project Manager will be responsible for implementation of BMC clinic-based operations for "BHEAT (Boston Hypertension Equity Alliance in Treatment): Comparing Team Based Approaches to Hypertension Control in the Safety-Net Setting," under the direction of the Principal Investigator and supervision of the GIM administrative manager. BHEAT is a clinical trial supported by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). The study will compare clinic-based interventions from across nine different clinical sites to improve care for hypertension and reduce disparities. The two participating clinics at BMC are the General Internal Medicine (GIM) and Family Medicine (FM) primary care clinics.

The Research Operations Project Manager will focus on managing overall execution of research initiatives, working with the research team and with clinical and operations leaders of both GIM and FM to develop study protocols, oversee the interventions adaptation and implementation as it relates to clinical operations and support staff. The Research Operations Project Manager will provide training to GIM and FM site staff to ensure standardization of interventions delivery. Other responsibilities include oversight of data collection from patients and clinicians and developing a Practice Workflow Assessment and Final Practice-Level Intervention Protocol, in collaboration with clinical and research leads. The Research Operations Project Manager will coordinate with clinic staff to support specific intervention components to ensure consistent delivery of the interventions and record adaptations of the interventions and communicate them back to the larger study team.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

CORE DUTIES:

The Research Operations Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing activities in the two participating BMC clinics throughout the course of the study:

Research Project Management and Implementation


  • Develops and implements protocols, including staff training, monitoring/reporting of significant clinical events, monitoring/recording of patient experience and staff engagement.

  • Develops and refines inventory system for remote blood pressure monitoring (RBPM) equipment. Develop workflow and data collection for RBPM equipment distribution including identification of patients with key medical conditions, planning for next clinic visit, and creation of clinical contact to educate in device use, register in relevant portal, and ensure data capture.

  • Develops and implements all guidelines and policies with the purpose of ensuring compliance with all government and research regulations, as well as maintaining alignment with the organization's mission.

  • Lead in the development and implementation of strategies to enhance continuous improvement in process and outcomes of study and data collection protocols.

  • Develop and maintain positive, collaborative, supportive working relationships with the medical staff, nurses, administration, department management and staff across the departments of GIM and FM.

  • Develops and shares communication with other study sites when appropriate.


Administration


  • Ensures smooth integration of all study components.

  • Coordinates, facilitates and leads research meetings to review project status and progress. Schedules and leads other meetings, as needed.

  • Works with Systems Analytics team to ensure timely and accurate data collection and to maintain a data management system. Compiles statistics and uses data to determine status of program activities.

  • Writes progress reports for leadership team and funding agency.

  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory, IRB, and other guidelines, creating necessary reporting as required.


Personnel Management


  • Supervises support staff including training, delegating tasks, overseeing daily activities, mentoring, guiding through demonstration of best practices and offering opportunities for professional development.

  • Leads by example, modeling positive attitude and collegial relationships, receptive and open to supporting and providing mentorship and guidance to additional colleagues on the team.

  • Prepares performance evaluations, submit timesheets, responsible for disciplines when appropriate to include terminations, with appropriate supportive documentation as per established policy.

  • Encourages staff and personally advances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and workshops and maintaining knowledge of industry standards and practices.

  • Oversees and conducts functions needed to support PI and other research leads on the project.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree (Masters preferred) with an emphasis in human services, public administration, social work, or community development.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of three years' experience in public health, health care administration and/or related field, including experience managing research projects and operations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):


  • Must be highly organized and detail-oriented, have exceptional oral communications and writing skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management, including planning, execution, delivery, quality assurance, and reporting.

  • Experience in operations and clinical process change and quality improvement is preferred.

  • Must be a proactive problem solver with superb planning, program coordination, and leadership skills.

  • Excellent judgement and ability to interpret information.

  • Prior supervisory experience required with ability.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to supervise others effectively
