Georgia-Pacific is seeking qualified professionals to consider for the Manufacturing Engineer - Digesters/Brown Stock position at our Palatka, Florida facility.

Palatka, Florida Manufacturing Engineer - Digesters

The successful candidate will have leadership responsibility for the safe and environmentally compliant operation of all chip feeding systems, batch digesters, turpentine collection and stock processing equipment into the brown stock areas. This position will provide technical support and expertise to area operators. This position will also work and coordinate closely with the area reliability coordinator, asset availability leader and reliability/maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and effective spending.

Our Team

Georgia-Pacific's Palatka Mill is a manufacturing site for the company's well-known consumer products business. More than 1000 employees produce a wide range of products for the consumer business, including Angel Soft bath tissue, Sparkle paper towels, Brawny paper towels, as well as other private label products.

The mill is the largest employer in the community and is engaged in supporting community outreach, workforce development and education. The area is a sportsman's paradise with world-class fishing that is bounded on the east by the St. Johns River, which provides such recreation as brackish water fishing and boating.

What You Will Do

* Provide leadership through effective utilization of the Principle Based Management (PBM).
* Facilitate a culture where the safety focus results in zero injuries and a compliance culture that results in zero incidents.
* Provide operational/business leadership and technical support for the manufacturing process of the Digester House along with adjoining areas and facilitate troubleshooting and problem solving to achieve goals.
* Coach/facilitate operators through day-to-day quality and productivity issues while supporting internal customer needs and production targets.
* Support operations to assure safety, environmental, quality and housekeeping compliance while meeting productivity and cost goals. Work with operators to identify and resolve gaps and constraints.
* Facilitate and coach operations to proactively troubleshoot and resolve problems using enablers such as simple root cause analysis, operator performed maintenance, operating envelope.
* Drive improvements in reliability through Scheduled Shutdown Plans, Pre-shutdown Inspections, Post-shutdown audits, and RCFA sessions
* Lead teams in the identification, development, evaluation and implementation of safety, quality and/or cost reduction initiatives and projects that add the highest value to the operation to drive continuous improvement.
* Investigate, recommend, and implement new technologies and process upgrades.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
* Ability to challenge the status quo and facilitate continuous improvement. Collaborate across diverse groups, gather, and share feedback while remaining current with industry best practices.
* Ability to plan and manage routine and annual outages for asset health and optimization
* Strong communication, presentation, planning and organizational skills; ability to multi-task and prioritize.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

* Minimum of 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
* Proven computer skills with emphasis on Excel, functional data bases and data analysis
* Basic process control knowledge/experience
* Basic industrial troubleshooting and outage management experience
* Basic industrial safety practices knowledge including lockout and permits

What Will Put You Ahead

* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Paper Science and/or other technical disciplines
* 3 plus years' experience with Batch Digesters, brown stock washing and Bleach Plant operations
* Proficient in the use of PI ProcessBook or similar application of process monitoring.
* Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis techniques
