Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for a Research Assistant to join our team! This position will support the Tyler location. This is a full-time Monday-Friday 8am-5pm position with no weekends, call, or major holidays

This position will be either a level 1 or Sr based on candidate experience.

What does the Research Assistant do? (Including by not limited to)

Under direct supervision, initiates and/or maintains accurate and current logs of all patients referred for participation in clinical research. Collects data from initial patient contact through course of therapy and long-term follow-up. Performs all clerical and administrative data management functions for the department. May assist with direct patient care, laboratory services, and maintenance of supplies duties as they relate to Clinical Research. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Maintains patient data files in an organized manner for easy retrieval and review.
  • Collects patient data from initial patient contact through course of therapy, rehabilitation, and long-term care.
  • Assists with scheduling consultations, diagnostic tests or procedures, and future appointments for patients with physicians as requested.
  • Prepares patient records for audits by regulatory, accrediting, and research organizations.
  • Maintains supplies, drugs and storage facilities for clinical research as appropriate.
  • May enter some pertinent data in computer system in a timely manner as outlined by department guidelines.
  • May assist physicians and nurses with direct patient care including vital signs and assisting in procedures. May assist with collecting and processing specimens for research purposes.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position will have the following background and experience:

Level 1

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1-year medical office experience, oncology experience preferred

Level Sr (in addition to level 1 requirements)

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three years of medical office experience preferred.
  • Oncology experience preferred.

Requires normal range of hearing and vision correctable to 20/20. Requires occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.
