Description

This position possesses competent skills to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) & apply the nutrition care process to patient care. The Dietitian will work with both pre-operative and post-operative Bariatric Surgery patients seeking weight loss. This is a rewarding role, where the dietitian will guide patients during their weight loss journey.

Duties Include:



  • Provide nutrition counseling and medical weight loss education to preoperative surgery patients.
  • Perform pre-operative nutrition assessments at patients initial appointment. The initial appointment includes: gathering medical and weight history, discussing weight loss attempts in the past, recording patients current food recall, addressing challenges and barriers and determine the patients motivation to make appropriate diet and behavior changes
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy to non-surgical weight loss patients, including paraoesophageal hernia patients.
  • Conduct dietary education sessions in group settings.
  • Instruct patients on specific post-surgery diet stages (liquids, pureed foods, soft foods)
  • Provide education on protein and vitamin/mineral supplementation after Bariatric Surgery.
  • Complete dietary discharge teaching to all surgery patients over at the hospital along with providing handout discharge instructions.
  • Conduct social support groups and present on different nutrition topics.
  • Create new bariatric friendly recipes and meal plans for patients to try.
  • Update and create new education material/handouts as appropriate.
  • Create content for quarterly newsletters and waiting room bulletin boards.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
