Job Summary

The Virtual Care Trainer ensures that everyone at UCSF and affiliates who uses telehealth or other remote care technologies is prepared to do so easily and effectively. The Virtual Care Trainer is responsible for creating and maintaining the accuracy of training materials in many forms, including PowerPoint presentations, tipsheets, web pages, and online learning modules.

The Virtual Care Trainer is responsible for conducting virtual care training for internal users, external users and other trainers. Training may be in the form of in-person classes, webinars or help-at-the-elbow, based on the needs of the target population. Topics include use of specialized equipment, specialized APeX workflows, and non-technological clinical workflows, among others. The Virtual Care trainer also develops and delivers questionnaires to training participants, then analyses the results and modifies the training offerings accordingly if indicated.

The Virtual Care Trainer also shares responsibility with Volunteer Services for training and coordinating the volunteers that serve as Patient Technology Advocates for inpatients

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced training and development professional to resolve a wide range of training issues and needs assessments. Develops new training programs, and works on complex training courses of diverse scope. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for delivering training and development programs.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $86,700 - $132,800 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Virtual Care office at UCSF ensures that any provider at UCSF who wishes to integrate telehealth or other forms of remote care into their practice can do so effectively and compliantly. We enable over 500,000 encounters annually, which represents a significant portion of ambulatory care.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Strong skills in planning, desigining and delivering effective training
  • The ability to engage and work collaboratively with learners in order to determine when and how training materials should be customized to meet specific needs
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop new training materials and revise appropriately based on feedback from both supervisor and peers
  • Ability to develop deep knowledge of training topics that may exceed what is routinely presented at training events
  • Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of processes and workflows common in ambulatory care settings
  • Ability to maintain a positive, customer-focused, "can-do" attitude at all times
  • Ability to use Drupal to maintain website content, or willingness to learn

Preferred Qualifications


  • Ability to travel occasionally
  • High degree of comfort with laptops, tablets and Microsoft Office Suite, including the ability to troubleshoot common issues with projectors, printers and communications software
