Hourly Rate: $58k-$72k

What You Will Do:

The Quality Assurance Engineer is critical in the enhanced use of analytical tools to improve the quality and reliability of our products while reducing costs. This position is an essential element to support the Operation Team in standard day to day manufacturing, design validation, process validation and new product development. Additionally, this position is intended to drive problem solving initiatives of our internal material supplier and the direct material suppliers to improve quality performance. He or she is also responsible for laboratory maintenance, auditing, preparing solutions and media, and for ordering supplies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary duties and responsibilities include the following, however, Management reserves the right to assign or reassign other appropriate duties to this job at any time.



  • Follow all safety guidelines and participate as fully-empowered team member to achieve organization-wide goal of zero incidents.
  • Run the laboratory including, performing laboratory tests and/or experiments following established procedures or protocols while operating requisite laboratory equipment and instruments; records data; maintains and makes minor adjustments to equipment.
  • Application of analytical tools to drive improvement in foam quality and continually achieve variation reduction.
  • Analyze foam physical property validation data, and champion improvement initiatives
  • Run the core tester including, coordinating mattress laminate/core testing program, and failure analysis on failed laminates/cores.
  • Perform internal scrap cost analysis and drive scrap cost reduction projects.
  • Participate in New product/process development, qualification, and establishment of "Safe Launch" Plans.
  • Track, Report, and drive improvement in direct material suppliers to improve incoming quality performance.
  • Performs product inspection and audits products and/or systems for conformance to standard.
  • Performs weekly CTQ audit and reporting to drive continual improvement.


  • Facilitate best practices benchmarking between TPVA and TPNM.


  • Assists in problem investigation and resolution.

What You Will Need:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and interpersonal).
  • Demonstrated experience in 5S, Lean and Six Sigma principles. Green Belt preferred, or ability to obtain within the first year of employment.
  • Minitab or JMP experience a must.
  • Audit experience preferred.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 1-2 years directly related experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and co-workers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:



  • Expert math skills are needed to include the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Must be able to measure using the metric system
  • Ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem.
  • Ability to use data in decision making and problem-solving processes.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Six Sigma Green Belt certification strongly preferred, or ability to obtain within the first year of employment.
