Job Description

he University of Missouri St. Louis (UMSL) is the university sponsor for six charter schools (our portfolio) in St. Louis. Our schools serve more than 2,500 students in St. Louis. UMSL established the Charter School Office (UMSL CSO) in 2012 to increase the quality of the schools in UMSL's portfolio. Our mission is to improve access to quality public education in Missouri by evaluating, providing oversight, and supporting successful public charter schools.

Essential Functions:

  • The Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of each of our schools. This position supports the Executive Director of UMSL's Charter Schools Office in managing the requirements of the charter school annual review and performance evaluation, evaluating schools' submissions, carrying out projects and tasks related to the operation of the UMSL CSO, and creating reports of findings.
  • This position requires the ability to gather, organize, analyze, and produce a high volume of information in a timely and accessible manner, and the ability to effectively communicate and provide feedback to stakeholders.

Specific Duties:

In collaboration with the Executive Director and Principal Investigator will:

  • Set up/Maintain the system for collection of Required Documents;
  • Compile, evaluate, and report on academic, financial, and operational data and Required Documents for compliance with federal and state laws, the Charter School Contract, and guidance from the Executive Director;
  • Provide feedback to schools regarding Required Document Submissions;
  • Assist in the production of Annual Review reports;
  • Participate in observations, interviews, site visits and/or focus groups;
  • Make recommendations about whether to and how to respond to noncompliance or not meeting expectations and/or non-renewal;
  • Regularly attend, participate in, and maintain notes on charter school board meetings;
  • Carry out projects and tasks related to the operation of the UMSL CSO and
  • Perform other related work as assigned.

Required Travel: This position is a hybrid position, with most work completed remotely, some work in the UMSL CSO, and some at the sponsored schools. There is some required travel in the St. Louis, MO area where charter schools are located to participate in board meetings and school evaluation visits. Additional statewide and national travel on a limited basis may also be required.

8am-5pm, M-F

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Anticipated Hiring Range

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $21.63 - $26.44 per hour
Grade: GGS-009
