Job Summary:

About the Institute for Innovations in Developmental Sciences

Northwestern University's Institute for Innovations in Developmental Sciences (DevSci) brings together the rich and diverse community of scholars at Northwestern focused on how early development shapes lifespan health and wellbeing. DevSci provides a scientific platform for transdisciplinary research and training bridging NU's biomedical and social sciences campuses. DevSci provides specialized infrastructure, resources, and training to over 150 faculty, students and staff from disciplines ranging from pediatrics, developmental psychopathology, prevention, developmental science, education, neuroscience, and population health. It also oversees the Neurodevelopmental Core at Northwestern University which enables the integration of state of the art developmentally-sensitive neuroimaging, physiologic and performance-based developmental assessment methods into diverse research programs.

Position Description

DevSci is seeking an individual with expertise in psychology, child and family development or related fields. This is an hourly, full-time position for a person with experience in early child development and project administration. A key aspect of the position will be supporting training and quality oversight for behavioral observations of young children and caregivers participating in the national HEALthy Brain and Child Development Study (PIs Laurie Wakschlag & Elizabeth Norton, Scientific Project Director Renee Edwards). This will include developing training protocols and materials for conducting and coding observational assessments, coding videos and supporting quality oversight, and providing administrative support for study implementation, including potentially coordinating study visits and direct assessments with children and families. The ideal candidate for this position will have training in early child development, experience with video coding caregiver-child behavioral observations and working with young children and families, and experience providing administrative support to a project team. The individual will be joining a fast-paced and dynamic research program and will work with professionals from a range of disciplines. This position requires an enthusiastic and committed individual with a strong attention to detail, clear scientific thinking, a background in early childhood development, and a strong interest in caregiver-child interaction. Spanish/English bilingual (speaking, reading, and writing) is strongly preferred.

This is a hybrid position with regular in-office requirements. Experience with administration of developmental assessments and parent interviews is also a plus. Attention to detail, flexibility, and excellent communication skills are essential. The position requires 40 hours per week and may include evening and weekend hours. This is an outstanding position for an individual with interest in growing their skills in developmental science within a dynamic research environment.

Please provide your resume and a cover letter that details your experience with working with children and families and any assessments you are familiar with.
