Turbine Mechanic

Comprehensive knowledge of power plant mechanic work, and is skilled in working with the turbine and other associated plant equipment. Also should be able to work on all turbine/ generator equipment and associated turbine support equipment (i.e. feed pumps, valves, lube oil system). Turbine Mechanics should have the ability to perform disassembly, troubleshooting, repair, assemble/align all components of a turbine generator.

Education / Training Requirements



  • High School diploma
  • Meet all applicable requirements to maintain unescorted access
  • Pass initial and annual Radiation Worker Training
  • Must have a minimum of 4 years of turbine related experience



Minimum Skill Requirements and Accountabilities



  • Follow safe work practices
  • Use administrative documents, procedures, data sheets / forms properly
  • Practice Foreign Material Exclusion and housekeeping per station directives
  • Use and properly operate applicable basic hand tools, have working knowledge of precision instruments, hydraulic wrenches, machine shop equipment such as grinders, band saw, drill press, chain falls, shackles, eye bolts, etc.
  • Disassemble, inspect, store and reassembly turbine components as directed by station procedures
  • Disassemble/reassemble hydraulic coupling bolts
  • Remove and install gaskets and packing
  • Assist in alignment and balance of turbine as directed by staff
  • Remove/replace/properly handle mechanical seals.
  • Ability to take critical measurements with a high degree of skill accuracy and efficiency
  • Ability to inspect, remove and install anti-friction/sleeve bearings, including the check of shaft size and housing fit
  • Care, use and proper installation of mechanical seals on various plant equipment
  • Removal/replacement of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical valve actuators without damage to equipment (no electrical disconnects)
  • Proper lapping and refurbishment of gate, globe and check valves
  • Disassembly, inspection and repair of pump equipment
  • Removal and inspection of steam/oil seals on turbine generator equipment
  • Turbine bearing inspection including the bluing and check of the support pads
