About the Role Supporting and programming Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMMs) to support production and engineering projects. Interpret customer specifications, interpret engineering drawings, CMM process documentation, design and fabricate tools, design and conduct experiments, gather and evaluate test results, produce test reports and other documentation. Your Key Responsibilities
- Programming the CMMs for new engineering products
- Providing critical data for engineering projects
- Focuses on improving existing CMM programs or processes that impact technical area or local plant
- Actions impact primary team or product line
- Interacts with internal and external customers/suppliers
- Works under general supervision of more experienced employees or manager
- Ability to solve moderately complex problems, but may still require instruction and guidance on complex problems
- Able to translate concepts into designs and actions
- Technical work product is generally subject to review and approval by more experienced personnel
- Provides coaching and feedback to operators running production CMM programs
- Is a team member on a major project or several smaller projects
- Prepares detailed specifications for work that is completed
- May be responsible for the completion of a phase of a larger project
- Identifies ways to reduce product, process, or project costs
- Knows and applies the concepts, practices and procedures in a technical specialty area
- Mastery of basic systematic/ creative problem-solving tools/skills
- Has a thorough understanding of the business or function being supported
Product & Process Documentation:
- Read and interpret customer specifications and drawings for moderately complex products
- Work independently to create and modify complex product and process designs using appropriate design specifications
- Support the capture and reuse of knowledge such as trade-off curves
- Develop and update regulatory and quality compliance documentation as needed
Testing and Evaluation:
- Perform tests, inspections, and other evaluations of products and processes based on defined procedures and standards and create procedures and standards for these activities
- Create and program applications using appropriate software
- Perform failure analyses of production line and field products
- Contribute to resolution of manufacturability issues with production floor and manufacturing Engineering for new products
- Work independently to create engineering test reports
- Contribute to development of new manufacturing processes
Technical Support:
- Serve as a subject matter expert in appropriate discipline area to provide technical support to engineers, designers, sales agents, customers and production
- Troubleshoot/repair problems with CMMs
- Work with suppliers to get samples, order parts, and explore cost saving ideas
- Train production employees on products, processes, procedures, and equipment
Administrative Activities:
- Understand specific customer CMM measuring techniques and standard
- Understand and follow all organization and department safety policies and procedures and identify improvements where necessary
- Issue tooling and materials purchasing requests
- Perform quality investigations and provide recommendations to address issues
Coaching / Mentoring:
- Provide coaching and feedback to less experienced technicians and designers
- Conduct training and technical orientation for new employees
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or two-year degree and related experience, or equivalent experience (5-8 years)
- Minimum 2 years of experience programming and supporting CMMs
- Preferred: Experience programming Mitutoyo or Hexagon CMMs
