DataBank Infrastructure Engineering is a team responsible for delivering mission critical infrastructure for DataBank's collocate data center business. Portfolio consists of small leased/owned facilities to large campuses.

DataBank is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer with a strong mechanical engineering background in small to large scale data center facility design, construction, and operations. This candidate will be responsible for ensuring mission critical facility designs meet DataBank's Basis of Design and technical standards. The position requires travel to sites, and vendor interaction beginning with the design process, construction, and commissioning of the installed systems. This position is part of an engineering team that are subject matter experts and provide engineering support for the entire organization.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for internal Colo Engineering, Construction, Facilities, Operations, Sustainability, and Sales teams.
  • Review equipment submittals & RFI's for construction and procurement.
  • Assist with development of complex Method of Procedures (MOPs) and Sequence of Operations (SOOs) for facility systems.
  • Perform site or data hall capacity analysis and help complete customer audit and sales RFP documentation.
  • Support startup, commissioning, and integrated systems testing. Review commissioning scripts for completeness and mitigate impacts to critical infrastructure or operations as required.
  • Review energy conservation and efficiency improvement initiatives for new and existing facilities.
  • Create conceptual designs and provide design specifications per latest Basis of Design standards and direct 3rd party consulting engineering firms to provide designs that comply with DataBank standards.
  • Review interior and exterior CFD's and provide direction to 3rd party consulting engineering firms to ensure mechanical systems operate at optimal efficiency.
  • Review and approve MOPs per DataBank Change Control process and policy to minimize risk to data center operations and ensure personnel safety.
  • Work with Procurement team to specify and select equipment for DataBank stocking program or customers that meet DataBank specifications and standards.
  • Represent DataBank in project meetings as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Minimum five years of professional experience in various aspects of data center design, maintenance, and operations with emphasis on design.
  • Basic understanding of various power distribution topology designs: Distributed redundant, Block redundant, Catcher/reserve, etc.
  • Strong design, operational, and commissioning knowledge of data center facility mechanical systems including air and centrifugal chilled water systems, small to large HVAC systems (air cooled, water cooled, evaporative), humidity control systems, hot/cold aisle containment, raised tile floor, overhead air distribution and air and water balance principles.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes and regulations (International Mechanical Code, ASHRAE, etc).
  • Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis.
  • Working knowledge of all data center critical systems, engineering functions, and concepts:
  • Practical and theoretical aspects of complex electrical and mechanical designs
  • Calculations (kVA, kW, tons (cooling), CFM, GPM, PUE, etc.)
  • Air containment configurations (Hot/Cold Aisle Design)
  • Capacity Auditing and Planning
  • Over subscription theory and Failover analysis
  • Familiarity with typical datacenter equipment (Chillers, Pumps, CRAC/CRAH, DX, Humidification, UPS, Generators, Switchgear, DC Plant, PDU, STS, Batteries, VFD)
  • Experience with AutoCAD, BlueBeam Revu, and MS Office Suite
  • Ability to travel to various sites upon hire to become familiar with key sites across the United States.
  • Willing and able to work off hours - outages, maintenances, etc
  • Strong technical writing, documentation, and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Leadership competencies and willingness to work cross-functionally to maximize revenue and provide an exceptional business partner and customer experience.
  • Must be able to self-manage, prioritize, and successfully execute multiple concurrent projects as part of a team distributed across multiple time zones in a fast-paced environment.
