UIC is seeking a Systems Administrator (Digital Dentistry) to join our College of Dentistry IT team. This position is responsible for the support and administration of digital dentistry information systems, technologies, and processes at the College of Dentistry. This role will need to have a strong understanding of IT systems architecture, application integration and programming concepts, and drawing upon knowledge at the College of Dentistry, the University and external sources, work closely with end users, vendors and the IT department towards the efficient and scalable deployment of digital technologies in support of clinical imaging (2D & 3D), fabrication (CAD/CAM printing & milling), PACS workflows, tele-dentistry, research, education and patient care operations at the College. The role is also responsible for the organization, management and security of digital dentistry-related applications and datasets.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Installation, configuration, and ongoing support/management of digital dentistry technologies and related systems at the College, including but not limited to CAD/CAM systems, PACS applications, digital imaging devices, intraoral scanners, 3D printers, and associated software applications.
  • Collaborate with dental practitioners, clinical staff, and IT staff to implement and optimize digital processes and workflows.
  • Liaise with vendors and service providers to procure necessary equipment, upgrades, and support services for digital dentistry systems.
  • Ensure the integrity, security, and confidentiality of patient data stored in digital systems, adhering to HIPAA and other relevant regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to assess the effectiveness of digital dentistry solutions and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement protocols for data backup, disaster recovery, and system maintenance to minimize downtime and data loss.
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives to ensure compliance with established standards and best practices.
  • Provide documentation, training, and technical support to dental staff on the proper use of digital dentistry systems and software applications to ensure proficiency and compliance with best practices.
  • Utilize Helpdesk service request processes to evaluate, monitor and manage ongoing issues and follow-through until satisfactory resolution has been implemented.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends in digital dentistry, recommending advancements that align with organizational goals.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems Management or related information management field of study.
  2. Minimum of one (1) year professional level IT experience within Systems Administration & Operations which includes demonstrated experience in architecture, configuration, planning, development, installation, maintenance, of enterprise computer and software systems mission critical hardware and infrastructure

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in administering digital systems within the healthcare or dental industry, with a focus on digital dentistry
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software, DICOM/PACS systems, intraoral scanners, 3D printers, and other digital dentistry technologies.
  • Strong technical aptitude and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements governing the management of healthcare data, including HIPAA and GDPR.
  • Certification(s) in relevant technologies or vendor-specific training (e.g., certification in digital imaging software, CAD/CAM systems) is a plus?
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of digital dentistry and healthcare informatics.
