Sr. Mortgage Loan Officer ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT

The incumbent's primary function and responsibility is developing relationships through business development activities with Realtors, Builders and Centers of Influence in an effort to 100% self-source and originate residential first mortgage and equity loans. The incumbent ensures that members receive exemplary service and a quality mortgage loan origination process in accordance with VyStar mortgage lending policies, practices, and procedures. The incumbent counsel's members and obtains the information needed to evaluate credit applications and submit loans to underwriting in accordance with credit policy and service level agreements. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • The incumbent must have current active relationships (Realtors, COI's, Builders, Etc.) to support 100% self-sourced production. Incumbents selected for this position will not have access to leads, internal referrals or be promoted on our VyStar Website.
  • Solicits and originates residential mortgage loans from various sources and produces high quality loans which are compliant and provide excellent member service.
  • Interviews applicants to develop information concerning their financial needs, preferences, and earnings to assist in determining whether the loan will be an acceptable credit risk.
  • Responsible for the overview of loan programs, negotiating of terms, and taking quality applications.
  • Enters applicable information and data into the point-of-sale origination software for a complete loan application.
  • Analyzes member information to present the best mortgage loan options based on member's needs, to ensure compliance and maximum member satisfaction.
  • Presents recommendations for producing loans and exercise some independent judgment, while developing understanding of functional area, policies, procedures, compliance requirements, and generating loans.
  • Discusses application with member, counsels and answers member questions concerning mortgage loan programs. Requests any additional information required to complete the loan application, prior to submission to underwriting.
  • Maintains communication with the processor regarding progress of each mortgage loan file and communicates status and information to member.
  • Acts as main point of contact for information and guidance for member. Documents communication with the member and/or other interested parties in the loan transaction in the mortgage origination software application.
  • Assists the assigned mortgage loan processor and closer to obtain documentation to ensure a smooth mortgage loan process. Proactively communicates status of loan throughout the loan process.
  • Makes a concerted effort to attend the mortgage loan closing with the member.
  • Reviews monthly production reports with the Mortgage Sales Leadership to ensure goals are being met.
  • Cross sells other credit union services.
  • Responsible for understanding mortgage department goals as well as Credit Union goals and pro-actively works toward attainment of those goals.
  • Identify and make recommendations to department Mortgage Origination Management regarding process improvements, quality service and increased efficiencies within the department.
  • Partner all of Real Estate Lending to promote and achieve the highest level of member service.
  • Pipeline Management: Prioritize and manage files among new submissions, documents, and funding.
  • Maintain SLA's in accordance with Mortgage Loan Sales Standards and Expectations.
  • Attends calibration calls, when needed.
  • Proactive in researching general scenarios and guidelines to stay up to date.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • The incumbent must have current active relationships (Realtors, COI's, Builders, Etc.) to support 100% self-sourced production. Incumbents selected for this position will not have access to leads, internal referrals or be promoted on our VyStar Website.
  • The incumbent must have a minimum of five years prior experience in the mortgage industry as a mortgage loan officer in a direct member contact capacity with a financial or mortgage lending institution.
  • Incumbent should have a proven production and proven track record in heavy customer contact. Must be self-disciplined and goal-oriented worker with a demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Superior communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to work independently on a very professional level.
  • Familiarity with conventional, VA, FHA, Construction to Perm, and equity loan financing as well as the knowledge of all regulations governing mortgage lending is required.
  • Must be well versed in private mortgage insurance.
  • Assuming the above prior experience, an incumbent selected for this position should be fully functional and producing consistently in this position within two to three months.
  • Equipment to be used in the daily performance of job duties include Loan Origination System, CRM, mortgage payment calculator, PC, and copy machine is required.
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required if candidate has 5+ years mortgage lending experience. The minimum formal education required is a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • The employee must meet and maintain all the requirements as a registered mortgage loan originator employed by a Federally regulated Institution with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS). The employee must comply with all provisions of the Act as defined in the Secure and Fair Enforcement of Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (S.A.F.E. Act) and credit union S.A.F.E. Act Procedures.
  • The successful candidate for this job must have excellent communication skills and should have the ability to interface effectively with members, realtors, builders and potential clients to ensure smooth work flow and provide efficient service to members while staying abreast of changing policies and procedures. Continuing education via local conferences and workshops and membership in affiliated mortgage banking associations should be established as time and resources allow for updates on federal regulations and secondary market requirements.
