Job Overview
As a key function within Komatsu's Decarbonization and Electrification Group, the Electrical Engineer utilizes off the shelf hardware or designs specific hardware that performs to a given specification. The position effectively interfaces software and hardware leveraging knowledge of equipment theory of operation and functionality, in order to achieve an ideal design with a concentration for industrial Electric Vehicle Batteries and Chargers.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Performs product development activities including designs, interpretations, and implementation of internal customer specifications and documentation requirements.
- Supportseffective communication of engineering issues to ensure compliance with global standards for design and safety of products and services, as well as with engineering best practices.
- Supports improvements to streamline engineering processes used to design, develop, maintain and support components, products, and/or services.
- Performs, generates, and documents hardware functional tests.
- Applies technical, hands-on troubleshooting skills, if required, to aid technicians and other personnel on new designs or equipment.
- Researches and specifies hardware components such as PLC's, electrical hardware and electrical power components.
- Provides technical support for manufacturing and field engineers/technicians.
- Works in a team environment, effectively voicing technical concerns, identifying potential issues, and helping in the solution process rather than act solely as an individual contributor.
- Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Gathers and analyzes information skillfully anddevelops alternative solutions.
- Travel 10%-15% for product development, testing, field trial observation is required.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- 5 years of related experience required.
- Experience with 3D CAD software
- Proficient in traditional off the shelf electrical components and hardware.
- Ability to integrate various off-the-shelf hardware into existing hardware architectures.
- Experience in various industrial communication protocols (RS232/422/485, TCP/IP, UDP, CANOpen, J1939, etc.).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Publisher, Outlook, OneNote).
- Good verbal and written communication skills: ability to communicate with various audiences appropriately in presentations, reports, procedure manuals, technical correspondence, etc.
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills in order to manage multiple projects and document progress.
- Experience with EV(Electric Vehicle) and EVCC(Electric Vehicle Charge Controller) system architectures preferred
- Experience with interpreting and implementing global software and control standards such as SAE J1772, DIN 70121, ISO 15118, IEC 61851-1 preferred
