Main Duties & Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs routine inspection and testing of raw materials, product in process and/or finished goods using metallurgical laboratory equipment, precision measuring tools and gauges. Organizes and prioritizes departmental work flow to ensure effective use of departmental resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Performs assigned routine and advanced tests on raw material, product in process, or finished goods in accordance with the industry, customer and/or company quality standards/specifications.

Performs macro examination for superficial surface defects such as laps, cracks, pits, etc.

Prepares samples for micro examination by sectioning, mounting and polishing.

Performs advanced micro examination such as HTO, EM, IGC, grain size, grain flow, grain growth, carburization and decarburization, plating thickness, etc.

Utilizes proper testing equipment to inspect product for adherence to print and/or customer specifications.

Records results on inspection forms or charts and test reports.

Assures that inspection equipment is calibrated and in good working condition.

Meets and maintains productivity levels in support of departmental standards, goals and schedules.

Performs records keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follows safety regulations.

Qualifications

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as work orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Abilities: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to perform complex duties where a high level of independent judgment and action and required.

Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

Other Qualifications: Skilled in the set up and use of metallurgical equipment such as cut-off saw, bench lathe, automatic polisher, metallograph, micro-hardness tester, and plating thickness machine. Ability to use precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers and calipers.

Proven ability to perform mechanical and physical testing on product, such as conductivity testing, drivability testing, shear testing, tensile testing.

Ability to read and understand a manufacturing work order sequence of operations.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be computer literate and be familiar with Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Five (5) years inspection experience working in an aerospace manufacturing environment (preferred in fastener industry).

The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk and kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
