The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Columbia University's Department of Pathology and Cell Biology invites applications for a Technician B. This individual will perform animal colony management and laboratory experiments, including flow cytometry, protein electrophoresis, western blotting, chromatography/sample pre-processing, and animal-based transfusion experiments. This also includes assay development for clinical laboratory tests, and bioinformatics analysis using R/Python.

Responsibilities

Perform lab experiments, including:



  • 15% Protein electrophoresis and western blotting
  • 15% Chromatography/sample pre-processing
  • 15% Bioinformatics analysis
  • 15% Performing animal experiments
  • 15% Animal husbandry
  • 15% Recording/analyzing data
  • 10% Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training and experience or equivelent in education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications



  • The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, highly organized, able to multi-task, take initiative, start and complete projects.
  • This position requires the technical ability to complete procedures and properly record and report results.
  • Applicants with experience in animal colony management and animal husbandry are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with flow cytometry, PCR, Western blotting, and/or recombinant DNA will be an advantage.
  • Programming in R or Python is preferred but not essential to start.
