The UVA Earn While You Learn Trainee Program provides structured coursework and paid on-the-job-training as a full-time, benefitted employee. The EWYL Phlebotomy/Clinical Lab Assistant (CLA) program is a hybrid program that provides classroom and experiential training for two essential laboratory support areas: Phlebotomy and Specimen Management. This training program qualifies trainees for the Clinical Lab Assistant career path with additional work experience. Upon program completion, trainees will work as either Phlebotomists or Specimen Management Technicians.

You will be contacted by a Recruiter to schedule a video interview. Position Compensation: Competitive pay + benefits You will be paid a total of 40 hours/week. All course and certification fees will be paid for by UVA Health in return for 1 year FULL-TIME commitment as an employee at UVA Health once course is completed. This training program qualifies trainees for the Clinical Lab Assistant career path with additional work experience. Upon program completion, trainees will work as either Phlebotomists or Specimen Management Technicians. Position placement is based on availability and candidate preference.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent. Experience: No experience required. Licensure: No licensure/certifications are required to apply to this role. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Phlebotomy: Job requires frequent walking, bending and stooping, prolonged standing; repetitive motion: extension and flexion at wrist; proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull < 20lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. Specimen Management Technician: Job requires sitting, standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer data entry. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, heat, cold, noise, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
