Occupational Therapist, Pediatric/NICU, PRN

Come join our patient focused dedicated team of rehabilitation professionals as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist, PRN, working in the pediatric departments of our Inova L.J. Murphy Children's hospital in Fairfax, VA. We are looking for a candidate to primarily work in our level IV NICU. Must have at least 1 year of experience in a level III or IV Neonatology Intensive Care Unit with advanced knowledge in performing assessments, providing interventions, and working amongst a multidisciplinary team to provide family centered developmental care. Certified Neonatal Therapist certification, Neonatal Touch and Massage certification, and/or small baby experience (22-28 weeks) preferred, but not required. Inova L.J. Murphy Children's Hospital is an award-winning, full service children's hospital that offers the highest level of dedicated pediatric care in Northern Virginia. Our pediatric rehab team provides therapy services to the 226 bed pediatric hospital which includes a level IV NICU, PICU, Cardiac Unit, Intermediate Care Unit, Medical/Surgical Unit, and Hematology/Oncology/Orthopedic and Trauma Unit.

The Occupational Therapist 1 adheres to department policies regarding the timeframe, form, and content of written evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries. Communicates effectively with patients, family, medical staff, care team members, students, supervisors, and outside contacts while completing all administrative tasks and other responsibilities in support of the operating unit.

Job Responsibilities:



  • Documents evaluation results clearly and completely according to department policy.
  • Completes daily progress notes that reflect patients' responses to treatment, actual performance and an assessment as to status, relevant to the treatment plan, and eventual discharge needs and treatment summaries if needed.
  • Completes discharge notes that include a summary of the course of treatment, progress toward goals, discharge needs, recommendations for follow-up and patient and/or family education.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, medical staff, care team members, students, supervisors and outside contacts.
  • Provides educational materials and methods appropriate to patients' level of understanding and motivation.
  • Demonstrates essential skill competencies in the use of treatment modalities, equipment and protocols. Performs re-evaluations according to department guidelines - adjusting the treatment plan as needed.
  • Showcases current knowledge of the application of therapeutic techniques and evaluation methods.
  • Assumes complete responsibility over the course of Occupational Therapy patient management from the time of initial contact to discharge for functional progress, safety and treatment outcomes.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.


Requirements:

Experience: 1 year experience in level III or IV NICU required, Certified Neonatal Therapist, Small Baby experience, and/or Neonatal Touch and Massage Certification preferred

Education: B.S. in Occupational Therapy - masters preferred

Licensure: Licensure: VA License required

Certification: Certification: BLS through American Heart Association (AHA)

Special Skills: Basic computer knowledge, proficient in English verbal and written skill
