https://fulbright.uark.edu/departments/sociology/ Summary of Job Duties:The Department of Sociology and Criminology in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenured Associate/Full Professor of Sociology to start in August 2025. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.

At minimum, the person hired must have: (1) a Ph.D. in Sociology from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the date of initial hire, (2) a strong record of scholarly productivity and active research agenda in sociology, (3) a strong record of developing and teaching Sociology courses, and (4) evidence of fostering a scholarly environment for all through teaching, mentoring, research, outreach, and / or service. We prefer candidates with demonstrated experience teaching Sociological Theory at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, along with a proven track record as an intersectional scholar who examines interlocking forms of oppression, such as race, racism, ethnicity, gender, social class, and sexuality, within their areas of research. We also prefer experience in interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and cross-campus collaborations and a proven track-record of effective teaching and mentoring across various modalities at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, a history of securing extramural funding to support research activities is highly desirable.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

About the Department
The Department is a dynamic, productive, collegial, and student success-oriented unit in Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. The Department offers undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Criminology, and an M.A. in Sociology, and affiliation with three research units: the Center for Social Research, Community and Family Institute, and the Terrorism Research Center. The Department participates in African and African American Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American & Latino Studies, and other interdisciplinary area studies programs.   • A Ph.D. in Sociology from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by start date

  • A strong record of scholarly productivity and an active research agenda in Sociology

  • Evidence of fostering a scholarly environment for all through teaching, mentoring, research, outreach, and / or service

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated evidence teaching courses in Sociological Theory at the undergraduate and graduate level

  • Demonstrated experience as intersectional scholar who examines interlocking forms of oppression (e.g., race, racism, ethnicity, gender, social class, sexuality, etc.) in their substantive areas

  • Demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and/or cross-campus collaborations

  • Evidence of effective teaching and mentoring across modalities at the undergraduate and/or graduate level

  • A record of securing extramural funding to support research activities
