Job Summary

Provides medical evaluations and treatment for adult and adolescent patients with chronic and acute health issues. Uses their expertise in primary care to provide high-quality health care and medical education. Collaborates within a healthcare team to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction. Comfortable working with diverse patients and staff. Provides services in accordance with Whitman-Walker Health's mission.

*Maintains a respectful, non-judgmental, and compassionate manner with patients/clients/staff.

*Demonstrates excellent customer service by identifying and exceeding customer requirements.

*Adheres to Whitman-Walker policies and procedures, with special attention given to HIPAA

requirements.

*Maintains data integrity through conscientious use of relevant tools and employing a system of checks and balances.

*Demonstrates organizational skills necessary to multi-task, meet deadlines and re-prioritize as needed.

*Participates in organizational quality and performance improvement activities.

Role-Specific Primary Essential Duties:

* Performs and behaves in accordance with Whitman-Walker's mission, cultural norms, and core values of dignity, respect, affirmation, and humility.

* Provides integrated, team-based clinical care in a state-of-the-art facility to a diverse patient population.

* Treats patients using a high level of quality health care based on primary care standards of care.

* Becomes an integrated part of a team approach to primary care.

* Ensures coordinated medical, behavioral health addictions, legal, and nutritional care in a medical home model.

* Interacts with patients using cultural sensitivity.

* Provides and documents high-quality and efficient medical treatment to Whitman-Walker patients.

* Evaluates and treats all patients with urgent and chronic medical conditions.

* Performs physical examinations and other preventative health care.

* Records patient data in medical records in accordance with Medicare and other payer rules and requirements.

* Codes patient visits accurately using Medicare and other insurance standards.

* Performs additional diagnostic and/or therapeutic clinical procedures as necessary.

* Collaborates with external healthcare facilities to facilitate access to specialty and inpatient care.

* Actively participates in educational activities related to HIV and primary care standards at Whitman-Walker and in the community.

* Provides educational opportunities and is eager to supervise medical students, PA students, NP students, medical residents, and medical students.

* Becomes actively involved in clinical case conferences and journal clubs.

* Participates in quality improvement activities at Whitman-Walker.

* Academic and other lecture opportunities will be available.

* Assists the medical management in developing, reviewing, and updating medical services policies and protocols.

* Helps develop new protocols and policies.

* Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

* Reports to the Site Director

* Primary contacts are with patients seeking medical treatment at Whitman-Walker Health.

* Works closely with the patient care teams to provide the highest quality, collaborative health care.

* Work is integrated between all WWH departments and outside agencies as clinically appropriate.

*Ability to adapt to changes in the service delivery model, re-prioritizing as necessary.

*Flexibility to work various shifts, including afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts as necessary.

*Flexibility to work within the organization's various locations as necessary.

Role Specific- Knowledge, Skills, and Talents Required:

*Excellent knowledge of primary care guidelines and standards of care.

*Excellent clinical and communication skills.

*Able to provide culturally sensitive medical services to a diverse client population.

*Easily applies knowledge and sensitivity to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues in healthcare.

*Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations as it relates to health care.

*Able to manage and delegate work in a fast-paced medical clinic.

*Able to work collaboratively and respectfully with other members of the care team

Education and Experience Required

*License to practice medicine in Washington, DC. required

*DC DEA Certification

*DC Controlled Substance License

*Spanish language or Amharic language fluency preferred*

2 years of experience working with members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Gender Expansive, Queer, Asexual, and Intersexed communities preferred.

*2 years of experience working with people living with HIV or issues related to HIV care preferred.

*Ability to provide culturally sensitive medical services to a diverse client population

Working Conditions:

Working conditions for this position are normal for an office environment. Individual may be required to work evenings and/or weekends and organization events.

Physical Demands:

*Lifting: No more than 20 lbs. and infrequently.

*Movement: Standing and sitting for long periods.

*Visual: Long periods on a computer.

*Concentration: Extended periods of engagement with computer systems where concentration is key to accuracy in data entry. Intermittent periods of engagement with a telephone system to respond to inquiries where concentration is key to task performance.

*Communication: Direct and indirect communication. Written and verbal competency.
