Overview

The School of Health Professions is looking for an Assistant Professor for the PA Program. The Duties are distributed between Teaching, Administrative, Service, Scholarship/Research, and Clinical.



Responsibilities

    Coordinate and prepare all assigned courses and lectures for presentation at the scheduled time.
  1. Present designated course materials to students in an organized and effective manner to enable enhanced student learning.
  2. Actively participate in all small groups and individual student practice and competency evaluations.
  3. Actively participate in the construction, evaluation, and review of single best answer test questions within industry-accepted guidelines.
  4. Participate in quality assurance for exams.
  5. Meet deadlines for exams and posting of scores as established by program protocols and schedules.
  6. Participate in the evaluation of course and program effectiveness.
  7. Interact with and promote teamwork within the department and with other EVMS departments in the delivery of the MPA curriculum.

GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE

  1. Support and promote the institution and the MPA Program mission, goals, and policies.
  2. Contribute to the Program Director's efforts to implement a premiere physician assistant educational program.
  3. Uphold the standards and policies outlined in the MPA Academic Handbook.
  4. Serve as an advocate for the program and communicate program needs to the Program Director.
  5. Create and promote a positive work/teaching/learning environment among students and staff through teamwork and open communication.
  6. Attend scheduled departmental and program meetings.
  7. Hold regularly scheduled and walk-in office hours to respond to student issues/concerns.
  8. Respond to internal and external requests as delegated by the Program Director in a timely and efficient manner.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

GENERAL SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintain National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification.
  2. Maintain Physician Assistant Licensure in Virginia.
  3. Participate on Program committees.
  4. Attendance at CME or other professional meetings is encouraged.
  5. Participation in institutional and professional committees is encouraged.

SCHOLARSHIP/RESEARCH EFFORTS

  1. Research relevant, current information and theories related to medical education.
  2. Actively participate in ongoing research projects.
  3. Engage in scholarly activities, leading to publication in a professional journal, research project, and/or presentation.

CLINICAL EFFORTS

  1. Opportunity for clinical practice no more than 0.20 FTE.


Qualifications

Master's Degree.

Current NCCPA Certification

Current Virginia State Licensure or ability to obtain a license.

At least 5 years' experience as a Clinically Practicing Physician Assistant.

Prefer experience in leadership and teaching roles.

Excellent organizational skills, effective written and oral communication, dedication to program development, and a willingness to accept new challenges.
