Job Summary

UT Southwestern is in search of a skilled and experienced Manager of Facilities for our Hospital Operations team. The Manager of Facilities works under minimal supervision to plan, organize, and coordinate various functions of the UT Southwestern Medical Center facilities.

Work Location: Dallas Campus, Clements University Hospital (CUH); assist other UTSW locations when needed.

Shift Requirement: 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday



Minimum Experience and Education Requirements

  • Requires bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Requires eight (8) years of related experience.
  • Requires three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • May consider additional years of experience in lieu of education.


Preferred Education, Certifications, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management.
  • FMP (Facility Management Professional) Certification.
  • CFM (Certified Facility Manager) Certification.
  • CHFM (Certified Healthcare Facility Manager) Certification.
  • Extensive experience managing facilities in a healthcare or clinical environment.
  • Familiarity with healthcare regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, JCAHO).
  • Experience managing projects and building systems in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Work requires exercise of considerable judgment.
  • Work requires contact with general contractors, designers and end users.
  • Work requires computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project.
  • Work requires knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry trades.
  • Work may require experience as an estimator or job superintendent.
  • Work requires supervision of staff in lower grade.



Job Duties

  • Supervises employees and workflow planning.
  • Provides and supports efforts to always develop teamwork between all employees and staff.
  • Seeks opportunities to teach, mentor, and promote professional growth of personnel assigned.
  • Collaborates with Physical Plant Trainer and Physical Plant Managers to provide training to staff.
  • Conducts staff and committee meetings and special projects such as patient satisfaction, team development and recruitment activities.
  • Conducts daily and/or shift by shift review of department assignments, scheduling and staffing plans to ensure adequate coverage and adherence to policies, procedures, and productivity targets.
  • Revises assignments, schedules, and plans as necessary.
  • Utilizes staffing patterns and guidelines to foster the most cost-effective option for providing adequate coverage.
  • Interviews and provides input regarding hiring of all personnel.
  • May terminate personnel for cause following discussion with and approval from Director and/or Director of Human Resources.
  • Provides immediate counseling and constructive criticism and disciplinary interventions of personnel in private setting and in manner that is positive and respectful.
  • Participates in routine interdisciplinary rounding.
  • Completes all annual performance evaluations and orientation evaluations of personnel assigned to unit.
  • Follows-up with accurate and timely reports to Director.
  • Coordinates various projects and programs for sections ensuring all tasks are completed by established deadlines and to ensure that quality customer service is provided for faculty and staff.
  • Utilizes Physical Plant resources which optimize those resources for benefit of organization and its patient population.
  • Identifies efficiency or cost saving ideas and reports them to the Director.
  • Reviews budgets and makes recommendations for budget needs.
  • Facilitates compliance by personnel assigned to unit to all policies and procedures, code of ethics, JCAHO standards, OSHA standards, and specialty organization standards.
  • Develops, revises, recommends, and interprets policies and procedures for section to ensure all applicable laws and governmental guidelines are followed and that employees are treated in an equitable manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed on job sites with frequent exposure to disagreeable and/or hazardous elements such as noise, dust, radiation, noxious fumes, etc.



Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimum require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources Administration or his/her designee.
