Position Summary

The Salvation Army Minneapolis Central Corps is doing the most good by providing holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families in need. In addition to worship services and pastoral care, services include short and long-term case management; food, clothing, utility, rent, and housing support; youth programming, and connections to community partners.

The Youth Development Coordinator oversees after-school and summer day camp youth programs, ensuring a safe environment and managing daily activities. The Coordinator develops, implements, and supervises a schedule of activities that promotes educational, recreational, relational, and spiritual growth.

$21.51/hour, 40hours/week

Essential Functions (Approximate time spent)



  • Youth Supervision & Safety (40%): Oversee daily after-school programs and summer day camps, providing a nurturing, safe environment. Encourage adherence to program expectations and address behavioral concerns with age-appropriate responses.
  • Program Planning & Coordination (20%): Develop and coordinate youth programming that promotes educational, recreational, relational, and spiritual growth. Create and manage schedules for after-school and summer day camp events, trips, and activities.
  • Community Engagement (10%): Promote youth-focused partnerships and programming by engaging in internal and external activities to foster community involvement.
  • Parent/Guardian Communication (10%): Serve as a liaison between the program and parents/guardians, providing updates, handling inquiries, and addressing concerns.
  • Budget Management (5%): Maintain fiscal responsibility by managing the program's budget and ensuring expenditures stay within allocated limits.
  • Program Evaluation (5%): Evaluate program effectiveness through feedback, data collection, and performance metrics, using insights to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support Seasonal and Special Events (5%): Assist with seasonal and special events (e.g., community events, Christmas fundraising support).



Education and Experience



  • Associate degree in a related field. Instead of a degree, experience may be considered.
  • Previous experience in community outreach, youth development, education, ministry, or related field.
  • Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; a senior soldier in good standing is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license, meet MVR driver's qualifications, and pass background check.

  • Proficient with PC, Microsoft Office, databases, and standard office equipment.



Working Conditions



  • Moderate physical work and must be able to lift 50 pounds required.
  • Professional environment; not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment.
  • Must be able to drive, sit, communicate clearly, and work in person or on the phone.
  • Work hours will include evenings and occasional weekends.



Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise volunteer/program staff and seasonal staff/volunteers.

Driving/Travel Requirements

Occasional local driving using a personal vehicle or agency vehicle may be required. Rare overnight trips.
