Architectural Staff II/Job Captain

Role Description: Huitt-Zollars has a great full-time opportunity for an Architectural Staff II/Job Captain at our Los Angeles, CA office. This role is to prepare designs and construction drawings for architectural projects, applying knowledge of design, building materials and assemblies. Candidate will also review drawings prepared by others, prepares specifications, and applies knowledge of construction procedures, zoning, and building codes. Candidate must be proficient in Revit.

Education: Bachelor's in Architecture from a NCARB accredited program

Duties:

  • Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
  • Prepares project designs and construction documents using BIM software and equipment.
  • Prepares various documents during the course of the project development including meeting minutes, project specifications, agency applications, etc.
  • Visits construction sites to observe the progress of construction work. Will visit sites alone and document the findings.
  • Research materials, assemblies, or building codes for appropriate incorporation into design and construction drawings as directed by a supervisor.
  • Integrate information from consultants and suppliers into Revit Models for documentation.
  • Processes contractor submittals by logging in the submittals and routing them to the appropriate party for review and assists in reviewing the submittals.
  • May be required to attend, record, and distribute meeting minutes and assist with general project correspondence.
  • Assist or prepare graphic materials for presentation or documents.
  • Select and prepare material finish boards/binders.
  • Some travel to construction job sites and client meetings.
  • Contact with clients, consultants and contractors.
  • Assists in preparing presentations and documents for clients.
  • Actively pursues new business opportunities by utilizing her/his network of personal and professional contacts. Displays a professional and personal attitude that encourages clients and consultants to award or refer new opportunities to the firm.
  • May provide technical guidance to less experienced architects/architectural staff.

  • Understands, follows, and enforces Huitt-Zollars' business process.
  • Productively collaborates with others and leads or encourages teams to achieve success and camaraderie amongst each other.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current.
  • Assist with appropriate administrative and project support tasks supporting the needs of the project team and office.
  • Complete assignments on-time, within budget, and with highest level of quality.
  • Routinely proposes and produces more effective ways to accomplish assignments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture from a NCARB accredited program
  • Minimum 6 years of related experience in institutional projects
  • Ability to read redlines and modify Revit models and other documents accurately
  • Proficient in Revit Architecture and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong problem solving/analysis, and technical capacity to research and apply building codes
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong task-oriented time management
  • possess proven teamwork abilities and work well in an open office
  • Produce design and construction drawings using information from supervisor, research data, and input from consultants

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion
  • The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities

Annual Base Salary Range: $83,000-$91,000 depending on experience and qualifications of the selected candidate(s). The expected salary range for this position is displayed in accordance with the California Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The final agreed upon compensation is based on the success candidate's individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and consideration to participate in our discretionary annual bonus incentive program.
