Role Description

Zoetis Inc. is a global leader in the animal health industry, focused on the discovery, development, manufacture and commercialization of medicines, vaccines, diagnostic products and services, biodevices, genetic tests and precision animal health technology.

The Category Manager is a new role responsible for the establishment of a new Global CAPEX Procurement function within the Global Manufacturing and Supply organization. The position will report directly to the Global Head of GMS CapEx Procurement who sits on the Global Procurement & External Supply Leadership Team.

As a new member to the team, you will work with the Global Head of GMS CapEx Procurement and other new members of the team (e.g. Platform CapEx Business Partners) to define categories and create a strategy for each of the categories you are responsible for. Beyond category management, you will also be responsible for segmenting your supplier base and implementing supplier relationship management according to our intern global standards. You will play a pivotal part in driving improved commercial activities within your category across our global manufacturing network of 28 sites. As a visionary and experienced CapEx category manager, you will be pivotal in defining the value proposition of this new function and supporting the journey of this team by bringing your years of experience within CapEx management to flourish within Zoetis.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the global project portfolio within your category of expertise
  • Define the global/local category strategy including a preferred supplier catalogue with key stakeholders within your category
  • Provide best in class procurement and commercial support to the GMS capex portfolio securing best terms and conditions for Zoetis while at the same time securing project delivery within agreed budget and timeline
  • Build strong business relationships to key internal stakeholders like manufacturing platform leads, manufacturing site heads, project managers, the manufacturing strategy/capital planning team, global engineering, finance, legal and the global procurement community
  • Define and implement category structure and strategies supporting the assets already installed and new projects/assets to come
  • Define and lead total value of ownership initiatives across your category incl. standardization projects including sustainability aspects across your category incl. deal structuring, contracts and negotiations
  • Proactively drive continued optimization opportunities to processes, systems and lowering the Zoetis total value of ownership within existing assets and new projects/assets
  • Strong ability to develop, implement and deliver on the savings pipeline based on all available data from the capex database as well as global benchmarks, feedstocks, market conditions and experience.

Role Competencies:

  • The ideal candidate for the role will be a seasoned global capex procurement person who is a high performer setting ambitious yet realistic targets for own category.
  • You have a proven track record of developing and implementing the category strategy, bringing in the right suppliers in alignment with the values and behaviors of Zoetis and continuously delivering according to high standards.
  • You have global experience working across cultures and timezones and knowledge of the supplier landscape with a focus on the US and EU.
  • You have experience with driving the supplier lifecycle of contract management post negotiation and implementation.

Education & Qualifications:

  • +7 years of global CapEx procurement experience
  • M.Sc degree or MBA degree e.g. within engineering, business administration or other relevant fields
  • Preferably experience from the pharmaceutical, FMCG or automotive industry

Technical Requirements:

  • Strong procurement tool box and experience with category management.
  • Experience with building "should cost tools/models"
  • Proven global experience with setting up and negotiating Engineering Services and General Contractor contracts. This experience should also include Time & Material, Cost Reimbursable and Fixed Fee / Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) contracts.
  • Proven global experience with Permanent Plant Materials (PPM) contracts. This experience should include electrical, mechanical, piping and automation contracts. Knowledge and experience should include domestic and international suppliers; with a focus on US/EU based suppliers where possible.
  • Proven experience in equipment supply (and installation) contracts from major pharmaceutical equipment suppliers located in the US, EU and China.
  • Proven and solid experience with negotiating large scale to medium sized projects and the supporting deal structure including but not limited to payment and delivery terms, performance KPI's, risk and liability measures and incentive structure
  • Knowledge of using SAP for CAPEX project and MRO planning/maintenance
  • Master user of the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (i.e. Excel, Access, PowerPoint incl. ThinkCell, and Word
  • Experience with financial capex flows in Ariba

Languages:

  • English - written and spoken is a must
  • Other languages (i.e. German, French or Spanish) preferred

Skills & Requirements:

  • +7 years CapEx category management experience preferably from the pharmaceutical, food or automotive industry
  • Strong business acumen and systems thinker
  • Strong networker by role modelling collaboration with senior business stakeholders (internally and externally). Proactively engage (both yourself and team members with the business to develop relevant strategies through procurement insights.
  • Ability to display "can do mindset" and always striving for improvements
  • Constructively challenge to maximize opportunity and minimize/mitigate risk.
  • Great communication and presentation skills and the ability to report procurement progress to C-level
  • Good financial understanding (payments terms incl. down payments, NPV calculation, depreciations and impact on P&L and asset management)
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
