POSITION TITLE: Research Assistant I

POSITION SUMMARY:

A Research Assistant I position is available in the group of Drs. Lipton and Nakamura at the Neurodegeneration New Medicines Center and the Department of Molecular Medicine, The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California. The successful candidate will join our team to investigate the pathophysiological roles of a posttranslational redox modification known as protein S-nitrosylation in a variety of neurodegenerative diseases. The Research Assistant I will perform a variety of routine scientific tasks with a focus on molecular biology, biochemistry, and tissue/cell culture experiments.

RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Perform molecular biology and biochemistry experiments that are related to neuroscience
  • Work under sterile conditions to maintain mammalian cell lines
  • Provide basic analyses and interpretations, and carry out other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.
  • Maintain detailed lab notebook, documenting all experimental procedures and recording results and data analysis
  • Work as a member of a team



REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained. Requires 1-3 years experience. Candidates possessing a Master's degree, 0-2 years experience required.
  • Experience in Western blotting, protein purification, cell culture, and/or ELISA is advantageous.
  • Able to collaborate proficiently and communicate effectively with colleagues.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

COMPENSATION: $20.07-$25.06 per hour
