GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Senior Survey Technician to work with the Florida Transportation Market Sector within our Transportation Business Unit. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a team oriented environment that will support professional growth and development.

Essential Duties:



  • Assists surveyors and other mapmakers in obtaining and computing data relevant to measuring land surfaces.
  • Obtains land survey data, such as angles, elevations, points, and contours, using electronic distance measuring equipment and other surveying instruments.
  • Places and recovers markings, stakes and other such signifiers at work locations.
  • Compiles notes, sketches, and records of survey data obtained and work performed.
  • Performs work under general supervision.
  • Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter.
  • May provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and seek needed information/Research skills.
  • Documenting/recording skills.
  • Computer skills.


General Characteristics



  • Begins to acquire basic skills; follows procedures; learns record keeping protocols learns data collection, recording and interpretation, learns technical literature basics, available for frequent travel and field work.


Minimum Years of Experience



  • 0+ Years of Experience


Education



  • Bachelor's degree in Surveying or related field required


Certification/Licensure



  • Obtains SIT Registration
  • Driver's License


Technical Responsibilities



  • Begins to perform and participate on survey crews for various surveying services, including but not limited to preliminary surveys, construction staking, as-built surveys, depth of cover surveys, topographic surveys, re-route surveys and crossings surveys.
  • Keeps in close contact with the applicable Survey Party Chief to have a full understanding of the scope of services of projects.
  • Learns to and ultimately assists Party Chief in downloading data collected daily and transmitting the data files.
  • Responsible for contacting the Survey Party Chief and/or Survey and Mapping Manager to troubleshoot technical difficulties the survey crew encounters.
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate GPS, conventional total station, data collectors, and other surveying equipment is required.

  • Receives close supervision on each aspect of assignments.
  • Attains mentored experience from a licensed surveyor


Communication Skills



  • Possesses basic oral and written communication skills. Identifies and acknowledges principles of teamwork and leadership.
  • Interacts primarily with internal project team members.
