Duties: HDR's Geotechnical Engineer in the New York office will:







        • Perform fieldwork including:

          • Meeting with clients on site and performing field reconnaissance;
          • Conducting geotechnical soil borings, rock coring, cone penetration tests and test pit investigations; and
          • Construction Monitoring;


        • Prepare geotechnical design of foundation elements for bridge structures, buildings, retaining walls, fill and cut embankments, and fender system, including:

          • Interpreting supplemental and historical soil boring logs and determining soil strata;
          • Evaluation of soil engineering parameters;
          • Soil stress analysis;
          • Seismic Evaluation;
          • Design of Shallow Foundation Elements;
          • Design of Deep Foundation Elements;
          • Slope Stability Analysis;
          • Providing guidelines for ground improvement;
          • Providing guidelines for construction considerations;
          • Pre and post Construction condition survey;
          • Providing guidelines for construction instrumentation and monitoring requirements;
          • Drafting Boring Location Plan and General Subsurface Profile;
          • Design services during construction including generating engineering responses for RFIs and reviewing submittals; and


        • Conduct Quality Control including review of geotechnical reports and fieldwork performed by others.









Requirements: Master's Degree in Civil Engineering and 2 years' experience in geotechnical engineering or a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and 5 years' experience in geotechnical engineering.

Required experience must include experience in:

  • Geotechnical design;
  • Geotechnical fieldwork;
  • Local construction codes including New York City Building Code;
  • Local Geology.
  • AutoCAD; and
  • MicroStation.



Accepting licensed and unlicensed candidates. Professional Engineering licensure is not a prerequisite for this position.

NOTE: All HDR positions in the US may be subject to background checks and/or pre-employment drug testing.

Rate of Pay: $88,150 minimum per year.
