About the College

The Texas Tech University School (TTU) School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) is seeking to fill a faculty position to provide instructional, scholarship, and outreach/service needs of our exciting, and innovative veterinary education program located in Amarillo, TX. The focus of this position will be pharmacology and therapeutics and will include both research and teaching responsibilities; the distribution of effort will reflect the interests and abilities of the faculty member. The mission of the TTU SVM is to serve the needs of rural and regional communities of Texas.

Major/Essential Functions

• Primary responsibility is to contribute to the TTU SVM's instruction in small animal medicine. The successful candidate should have strong interest in teaching. The position will include some service duties such as committee service and student mentoring, and scholarship is expected as appropriate. The distribution of effort toward each activity will be individualized for each faculty member and outlined in the letter of appointment.
  • It is expected that tenure-track faculty members will establish extramural support for their scholarship, and this will include support for graduate students and opportunities for involvement of professional students. This expectation is proportional to the percentage of effort assigned to scholarship in the letter of appointment.
• Clinical practice may be a part of this appointment depending on the qualifications and preferences of the candidate.
• Contribute to activities necessary for accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education, other regulatory or accreditation approvals, and admit and deliver the curriculum to the students of the professional degree program.
• For tenure-track appointments, participation in the School's research enterprise and PhD program.
• Curricular development/delivery and related activities. Most curricular development/delivery will focus on courses related to small animal medicine, with opportunities to participate in other courses depending on the interest of the faculty member.
• Additional comments:
  • The curriculum is focused toward general veterinary practice in rural and regional communities. A central function of subject-matter experts is to provide instruction that prepares graduates to competently and confidently practice veterinary medicine at a distance from referral hospitals.
  • Those with experience in rural and regional community practices will provide important feedback that will inform the admission process, instruction, and continuing education.

Faculty Qualifications

• DVM (or equivalent) is required
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in small animal clinical veterinary medicine relevant to the practice of veterinary medicine in the United States.
• Evidence of the expertise and skill necessary to teach small animal internal medicine to veterinary students.

Preferred Qualifications

• Candidates who have a successful track record of or show promise in future teamwork, curricular development, instruction, scholarship, and service.
• Eligibility or board-certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
• Texas Tech is a Hispanic Serving Institution and has a long history of serving first-generation students. Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable.
