Description

We are looking for a curious and creative individual with a long-term interest in science or medicine. Selected candidate will be expected to perform independent research after initial training for research techniques. Should work independently, under very general supervision. Will be executing protocols for immunology related experiments. Must have a professional attitude and strong work ethic. Works in collaboration with the lab team. Calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data using statistical techniques.

This position involves extensive training at the initial stage, and hence requires a one-year commitment minimum.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Will perform experiments under the supervision of Dr. Vinee Purohit.
2. Performs wet laboratory techniques, including tissue harvesting, cell and microbial culture, and molecular biology methodologies.
3. Experiments may include tissue culture, in vitro assays, genotyping, cloning, PCR and preparing special materials.
4. Performs, observes, records, and analyzes data using advanced statistical techniques.
5. Maintains long-term tissue cultures of human and mouse cell lines and monitors cells for viability and contamination.
6. In collaboration with Dr. Purohit, establishes new and modifies existing research techniques.
7. Coordinates schedule of tests and procedures, contributing to the generation of protocols and documents.
8. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
9. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. BS in a biological/physical science required.
2. Must have almost one-year experience in a directly related research setting.
3. Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
4. Ability to work independently as part of a team.
5. High level of initiative and ability to work with little supervision.
6. Hands-on experience in molecular biology, genomic and cellular biology (cell-based assays, cell culture) helpful.
7. Computer literacy and working knowledge of data management systems.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

1. High degree of computer literacy.
2. Sound analytical and organizational skills.
3. Requires good oral and written communication skills.
4. Must be able to logically and effectively structure tasks and set priorities.
5. Ability to identify potential problems and trouble-shoot solutions.
6. Demonstrated ability to analyze data statistically and to logically present it.
