Summary of Job Duties:The Skilled Trades Worker (Electrician) will work under general supervision, and will be responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, lighting, ballasts, switches, outlets, breakers, etc. The Skilled Trades Worker
(Electrician) will also be responsible for performing tasks in other skilled trades' areas as needed. This position is governed by established trade practices and institution policy. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications/Experience: Minimum qualifications include high school diploma or equivalent. Journeyman or Master Electrical License required.

  • Stable work history
  • Valid driver's license
  • 3 or more years' experience doing general maintenance activities to include extensive electrical and/or electronic.
  • Requires the ability to read blueprints, plans, and work drawings.
  • The ability to communicate with peers, superiors, and customers.
  • Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:

  • Knowledge of methods, practices, and safety precautions in the skilled trades' areas
  • Knowledge of the safety precautions used in the electrical trade.
  • Familiar with electrical building codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, schematics, building plans and/or work drawings.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and machinery used in the skilled trades' area

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform installations and repairs to electrical wiring, lighting, ballasts, switches, outlets, breakers, and other miscellaneous equipment.
  • Installs electrical systems including bending and running conduit, pulling wires, and installing breaker panels, etc. as required on commercial and residential remodels and or new buildings as needed.
  • Maintains and services electrical equipment as needed or required.
  • Responsible for setting up electrical equipment such as outlets, cords, breakers, and all other power requirements for special events.
  • Responsible for planning and layout of proposed electrical installations from blueprints
  • Installs and troubleshoots all types of electrical circuits, switches, receptacles, security, and emergency systems.
  • Diagnoses motors and control circuits with proper meters and instruments and replaces or repairs as necessary.
  • Inspects transformer, high voltage manhole system, switch gears, electrical generators, and electrical panels.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plumbing-Minor maintenance and repair of commodes, lavatories, showers, hot water heaters, faucets, fountains, water coolers, drains, and similar type of equipment.
  • Performs minor repairs on large and small appliances.
  • Maintains inventory of tools and cleans work area as needed or requested by supervisor.
  • Performs other responsibilities or duties as required or assigned.
  • Work with other team members, including assisting other team members to meet goals of institution.
  • Perform in-house new construction or renovations to include demolition and installation of new equipment.
  • he ability to communicate directly with customers and maintain composure in sometimes not so friendly environments.
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and to provide leadership for subordinates.
  • Requires consistent on-time attendance.

List Employees Supervised: As needed and directed.

Working Relationships: The Skilled Trades Worker - Electrical will have frequent contact with supervisors, peers, employees in other departments, faculty, staff, Contractors and persons outside the institution.

Special Job Dimensions:

  • Must be able to lift 50 +/- pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Will be required to cover "on-call" duties on a rotating schedule.
  • Able to bend, stoop, push, pull, and stand for 8 hours or more each day.
  • Able to work on ladders, in man lifts, and willing to work from heights as required.
  • Overtime may be required including evening and weekend assignments.
  • There will be some exposure to inclement weather.
  • May be asked to perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
  • Some exposure to dirty, noisy and/or hazardous working conditions
  • Work special events such as sporting events, academic competitions, and other typical campus social activities or events.
  • Responsible for furnishing basic hand tools.

Salary Information:

$36,000 - $42,000/year, commensurate with education and experience
