Department:English, Humanities, and Foreign LanguageDepartment's Website: Summary of Job Duties:The role of an Extra Help Assistant is to provide basic support in a state agency or institution, such as unskilled or semi-skilled labor or performing basic office tasks. This position is governed by both state and federal laws and agency policy. As an assistant, your responsibilities would involve helping students from various curriculum areas by offering guidance on generating ideas, developing a thesis, pre-writing, improving grammar and clarity, revising early drafts, creating a meaningful essay structure, formatting, finding appropriate resources, and most importantly, building confidence in their writing abilities. You would also assist others in writing PowerPoints, compositions, critiques, letters, scholarship applications, web publishing, outlines, speeches, resumes, and bibliographies. Qualifications:To be eligible, the student must possess knowledge of formatting styles such as APA and MLA, along with basic people and problem-solving skills, and exhibit a positive work attitude. Additionally, it is required that the student has successfully completed both composition courses and maintains an overall GPA of at least 3.0 (borderline cases will also be considered). Furthermore, the student must provide a reference from at least one UAPB faculty member who can vouch for them. The assistant will answer phones and schedule meetings.
