Position Purpose







This position performs complex procedures of the central and peripheral nervous system for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of neurological diseases in accordance with industry, Federal, State, TJC, and Laboratory Accreditation Board of ABRET requirements. The Neurodiagnostic technologist participates in the implementation of ASET Standards of Care and physician orders to achieve the goal of effective utilization of services and improved patient outcomes. In conjunction with leadership, this position is responsible for recommending the delivery of patient care through proper execution of care standards, physician orders, and advanced Neurodiagnostic practitioner skills.









Nature and Scope







This position is required to perform neurodiagnostic studies on the brain, auditory system, visual system, somatosensory system, and other central and peripheral structures in all areas of the medical centers. This position is accountable and responsible for the performance of Neurodiagnostic procedures including but limited to EEGs, Long Term Monitoring of Epilepsy and ICU/cEEG monitoring, ambulatory EEGs, Evoked Potentials, and Intraoperative Neurophysiologic Monitoring. This position demonstrates anatomic and physiological data through proper electrode application, preparation of a technical history to aid the interpreting physician, selection of test protocol, and clinical observation of the test subject. The Neurodiagnostic technologist reviews electrographic recordings for identification, technique, and completeness according to the American Board of Electroencephalographic & Evoked Potential Technologists Laboratory Accreditation Standards (ABRET), and laboratory policy and procedure. Tech possesses knowledge and technique in data reformatting and data reduction and is responsible for analyses and extraction of pertinent data for physician interpretation and archive.

The Neurodiagnostic technologist will acquire the necessary skills to perform new neurodiagnostic studies as they are added to the service product line. The Neurodiagnostic technologist will be required to actively train into all test applications and acquire the skills necessary to work autonomously. Participates in educational sessions contributing technical and professional knowledge to students, allied health personnel, and physicians. Evaluates new instrumentation and biomedical equipment related to Neurodiagnostic technology. The incumbent participates actively in the accreditation application and re-application process. The incumbent is expected to fulfill continuing education requirements to maintain certification in good standing.

The Tech has the authority to schedule patients according to the department policies, to evaluate if a patient is capable of tolerating an examination, to determine what type of procedure to follow, and to suggest the best location for testing. This position greets patients, physicians, and the general public in a manner consistent with the Purpose Statement, Values, and Standards of Conduct of Renown Health. The position is challenged to operate a variety of sophisticated electrophysiological neurodiagnostic equipment and reading devices.

The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensory, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to patients ranging in age from newborn through geriatric and meets standards of quality as measured by the unit/department competency with special population standards.

This position provides direct patient care.

Description



Education:



Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Associate degree in Neurodiagnostic Technology or equivalent education and/or experience required.



Experience:



3 years recent Neurodiagnostic testing experience preferred.



License(s):



The ability to obtain and maintain a Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (R.EEG.T) from American Board of Electroencephalographic (ABRET) or a Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist (R.NCS. T.) from American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists (AAET)/ Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist (CNCT) from American Board of Electroencephalographic (ABRET) is required at time of hire.

Registered Evoked Potential Technologist (EP) from American Board of Electroencephalographic (ABRET) is preferred.



Certification(s):



American Heart Association CPR certification for health care providers is required at time of hire.



Computer / Typing:



Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
