Job Summary:

Physicians with the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) provide comprehensive, patient-centered care for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses in a progressive outpatient setting. They are also provided the opportunity to grow the next generation of physicians through hands-on instruction of residents, fellows, and medical students.

GIM prides itself on building a team of empathetic and collaborative primary care providers across the city of Madison and at beyond. Responsibilities:

Clinical track duties:
Provide comprehensive patient care in the outpatient setting. Duties may include clinical teaching of medical students residents, and fellows, as well as administrative duties. Individuals may also be called upon to fill clinical needs at UW Health Urgent Care Centers. The preferred candidate will either have experience teaching and working with a diverse population or will welcome a commitment to teaching and working with a diverse population.

CHS track duties:
Provide comprehensive patient care in the outpatient setting. Duties may include clinical teaching of medical students residents, and fellows, as well as administrative duties. Individuals may also be called upon to fill clinical needs at UW Health Urgent Care Centers. The preferred candidate will either have experience teaching and working with a diverse population or will welcome a commitment to teaching and working with a diverse population. Participation in research endeavors of the Division expected.

The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Education:

Required
Terminal Degree
MD, DO, or equivalent.


Qualifications:

Exceptional attention to detail; ability to balance multiple, often competing priorities; ability to collaborate on a multidisciplinary team; commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive work environment; excellent communication skills with an emphasis on patient empathy; previous EHR experience (EPIC preferred but not required)

For appointment at Associate Professor rank on CHS Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate on the CHS Track.

For appointment at Clinical Associate Professor rank on CT Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate on the CT Track.


License/Certification:

Required

Must be Board Eligible or Board Certified in Internal Medicine. Expectation is to Board Certified within the first two years of appointment.

Must be eligible for a Wisconsin medical license.


Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 50% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Additional Information:

The Division will not be able to support a request for a J-1 waiver. If you chose to pursue a waiver and apply for our position, neither the UW nor UWMF will reimburse you for your legal or waiver fees.

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

This position has been identified as a position that will be located in or regularly access UW Health locations. This position will need to adhere to UW Health policies and affiliated requirements. UW Health requires that anyone (all staff, faculty students, volunteers, and other affiliated individuals) working in or regularly accessing UW Health locations receive the COVID-19 primary vaccination series and first booster. This position will be required to adhere to that policy and if not in full compliance to have a plan for achieving full compliance within 40 days of the first day of employment.
