Provides support for the delivery of a full range of medical imaging procedures. Assists and Performs a variety of technical and patient care related duties enhancing the effective and efficient delivery of radiology services under the direct and indirect supervision of the registered professional technologist.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date. 3. Competency in the use of safe patient handling equipment within 30 days of hire date. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE: 1. One (1) year of experience in a clinical setting preferred. CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Greets patients upon arrival to the Radiology department and consistently facilitates the patient's department experience. 2. Answers all phone calls in a timely and courteous manner, identifying self and unit at all times. 3. Upon receiving written orders, verifies completeness and notifies ordering physicians of any inaccuracies. 4. Supports the Radiologic Technologists in the planning and execution of routine imaging procedures meeting the standards of the department. 5. Prepares patients for basic examinations and diagnostic procedures according to department procedure. 6. Informs appropriate personnel of patient arrival for appointment. 7. Assesses the patient's needs related to comfort, and provides support accordingly. 8. Provides direct patient care as needed to facilitate routine imaging services. 9. Safely assists in the transport and handling of all patients according to WVUH'S patient handing policy. 10. Escorts the patient to and from the procedure room and assists as needed with patient arrival and departure from the department. 11. Maintains a clean and safe environment according to department procedures to help prevent and/ or control infection to provide for safety of patient, visitors and employees. 12. Promotes the team approach to providing Radiology services by positively interacting with the technical, support, nursing, residents and medical staff. 13. Observes and reports all patient concerns/ changes in condition to a registered technologist, nurse or physician immediately. 14. Assists in routine unit operations as directed/ needed to assure smooth communication and functioning of the unit. 15. Coordinates the outpatient and inpatient department workflow by maintaining communication between the department and patient floors, ED and OR. 16. Provides direct patient care by assisting with gowning and basic physical care to promote comfort. 17. Performs and maintains assigned quality control testing and calibrations of equipment according to department and manufacturer specifications. 18. Engages in problem solving, crisis management and systems implementation throughout the hospital to promote and support efficient, high quality, cost effective patient care. 19. Facilitates transportation of inpatients and ED patients to and from imaging department. 20. Transports patients back to ED following imaging procedure. Requires strength and or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing and walking. Handling of materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Pushing/pulling carts weighting up to 200 pounds. 3. Stand and walk for up to 8 hours a day. Exposure to minimal radiation with in the national standards of occupational guidelines. Monitored by radiation safety and use of dosimeter. 2. Exposure to airborne particles and body fluids. 3.Operation of imaging equipment with automated moving parts. SKILLS & ABILITIES: 1. Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the health care team. 2. Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously. 3. Demonstrate competency in the use of safe patient handling equipment. 4. Ability to multi- task in a busy setting. 5. Knowledge of radiology information systems to include EPIC, PACS and Teletrak.
