Position Highlights The College of Information Science is seeking an early career scientist with background in quantitative biology (preferably with experience on phylogenetics) to fill a position as Postdoctoral Researcher at the Data Diversity lab at the College of Information Science. The Postdoctoral researcher will work on programming projects that might be related, but not limited, to (1) developing an Approximate Bayesian Computation (ABC) framework for inferring (the presence and strength of) biological processes (speciation, extinction, host shifts, and potentially phenotypic evolution) from co-phylogenetic patterns, and (2) assembling an associated R package for the related code.

This is a temporary, six-month assignment.

Duties & Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write
    scholarly publications.
  • Write
    reproducible code.
  • Contribute
    to the preparation of reports and proposals.
  • Participate
    with supervision of students and teaching.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Skills
    with R, Python or other programming languages.
  • Strong
    communication skills.
  • Ability
    to write peer-reviewed publications.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in
    Biology or a quantitative discipline upon hire.
  • Experience
    in innovative research.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with software development
  • Experience conducting systematic literature reviews
  • Experience with machine learning.
  • Background in quantitative biology (preferably with experience on phylogenetics).
  • Experience with Approximate Bayesian Computation.
