Tectonic is currently seeking qualified Construction Special Inspectors to perform special inspections on upcoming public works projects in the Philadelphia, PA area - we are accepting applications for individuals interested in working on a full-time or part-time basis. These positions offer opportunities for professional growth and advancement, as well as industry-specific certifications and on-site training!
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions of this position include traveling to various project sites on a daily basis, monitoring construction operations, and using applicable field testing procedures and testing equipment to perform required field and building inspections and testing, as well as all related testing as required by the project and client to determine compliance with project plans and specifications. Essential functions also include the preparation of Daily Field Reports, communication of deficiencies observed in the field to project managers, contractors, and/or client representatives, and the interpretation of project-related drawings and documents, as well as all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS


  • Construction Inspectors must possess a HS Diploma/equivalent and possess/maintain one or more of the certifications or additional education as detailed below (or similar); certifications must be currently valid:

    • ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector
    • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I
    • ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector
    • ICC Prestressed Concrete Special Inspector
    • ICC Structural Masonry Special Inspector
    • ICC Structural Steel & Bolting Special Inspector
    • ICC Structural Welding Special Inspector
    • ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector
    • ICC Spray-Applied Fireproofing


  • Ability to successfully complete required OSHA training within a reasonable time period;
  • Effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Basic understanding of the fundamentals of building inspection codes and requirements in order to carry out testing, including, but not limited to, International Building Codes, ASTM Standards, and TMS standards;
  • Must be detail oriented;
  • Requires a valid, clean driver's license and personal vehicle to travel to and transport testing equipment to various project sites primarily throughout the Philadelphia metro area, as regular daily travel is required.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the essential functions of this position, it is frequently necessary to:


  • Assume a stationary position,
  • Handle, inspect, and/or feel documents, materials and/or equipment relevant to the job;
  • Communicate with colleagues, supervisors, and clients using Company email and telephone systems;
  • Move around on the job-site, including ascending or descending on the landscape or on a ladder, and positioning oneself appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment, usually for prolonged periods of time,
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. for some types of monitoring and inspections,
  • Good visual skills, including focused depth perception, and
  • Regular daily operations of a motor-vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.


Employees may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT Regulations, and/or Company policy. The employee may occasionally be required to operate a computer, as well as other related office machinery, such as calculators, printers, and copy machines. The physical demands described above are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
