  1. Our Team

Advanced Engineering Lab. (AEL) is an engineering group at
HATCI that focuses on advanced technology research and development that can be
applied to current/future production vehicles and future mobility. AEL covers a
wide range of areas from the development of new vehicle concepts to CAE and
vehicle energy analysis and management.

The Position

HATCI is currently seeking a Senior Engineer or Engineer II
- EV Battery System Test / Lab Project Management for our Superior Township, MI
facility (near Ann Arbor). Execute battery testing lab build out acting as
project manager interfacing with various stakeholders internal and external to
completion. Once completed, this role
will pivot into a test engineering role.

The BSD is an Engineering Department within AEL, which was
established to undertake projects related to EV high voltage Battery system testing.
This position reports to Manager of BSD.

Core Responsibilities

  • Ability to read blueprints and
    interpret to interface with contractors such as electrical, mechanical, and
    general construction

  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Project
    to maintain and report on task completion and project status to management and
    any other stakeholders.

  • Ability to collect data from testing
    battery packs or modules and analyze for results, correctly interpreting data,
    organizing into understandable formats to facilitate decision making or
    presentation to other groups or management

  • Participate
    in selection of test equipment as needs arise, providing input into proper
    specifications and capabilities to ensure team success

  • Ability
    to use a laptop to connect to various vehicle systems and pull relevant data,
    interface with vehicle modules and modify as necessary to achieve test capability

  • Understand
    vehicle communication such as CANBUS, flex-ray, etc and ability to interpret
    messaging to achieve insight into battery and vehicle operation and correct
    issues encountered during testing

  • Monitor testing systems, perform
    troubleshooting on equipment and make changes to test procedures to achieve
    testing goals

  • Ability to setup battery packs for
    testing on cycling equipment, adhering to safe practices, setup parameters in
    cycling and environmental chamber equipment to complete tests without
    supervision

  • Collaborate with broader
    engineering team such as the design team and aerothermal team for
    structured design integration, new proposals, problem solving, and battery
    pack structural optimization.

  • Set up
    engineering goals and objectives aligned with the department's direction,
    and drive execution, engagement, and results to accomplish them.
  • Work
    with Manager and Senior Manager to participate in department's resource
    planning, goal setting, and technology road map creation.
  • Facilitate
    inter-team collaboration and knowledge sharing through transparent
    communication.
  • Produce
    and deliver presentations on key project milestones and achievements.
  • Travel
    both domestically and internationally (up to 20%)

Basic Qualifications


  • B.S.
    in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering,
    Materials Science and Engineering or other related fields
  • Experience
    or exposure to battery lab testing
    facility operation and/or build process
  • 5+
    years of automotive engineering experience
  • Demonstrated
    ability to work collegially with others with the highest standards of
    integrity.
  • Strong
    working knowledge and experience in xEV components or high voltage battery
    system, principles, operation, and vehicle electrification technology
  • Proven
    track record of engineering projects related to engineering design,
    testing or simulation of xEVs and their systems & components such as
    batteries, and/or charging systems.
  • Must
    be able to work with many different departments within HATCI and with its
    affiliates (e.g., Korea R&D Center, Hyundai Motor North America, Kia
    US, etc.) with a demonstrated ability to create relationships and
    facilitate work across company functions.
  • Knowledge
    in vehicle or vehicle component test procedures
  • Good
    written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Valid
    Driver's License with satisfactory driving record
  • Candidates

Preferred Qualifications


  • M.S.
    in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering,
    Materials Science and Engineering or other related fields
  • Experience
    with energy storage system and/or thermal management system development
    including test equipment, test processes, and system design processes.
  • Experience
    with construction processes within a commercial / industrial setting
  • Project
    management experience with laboratory buildout in an R & D setting
