The Business Data Officer is a business minded individual responsible for understanding the data needs across the enterprise and to develop and execute a roadmap to maximize data capabilities and business insights. This individual is responsible for scaling the data function as new products and services and transforming data into insights that inform strategy and decision making to support profitable and sustainable growth.

The Business Data Officer will build from the ground up data analytics capabilities for the Commercial banking team. The Data Officer will partner with the most senior leaders across the Commercial Bank.

This position reports directly to the Chief Data Officer, will direct and lead resources, and serves as a stakeholder/participant in our Data Strategy Executive Committee.

The ideal candidate has a sound understanding and experience with commercial banking, with the ability to manage strategic opportunities and direct resources to deliver on key data capabilities.

The Business Data Officer establishes, plans, and administers the overall goals and roadmap of the commercial data team. They provide strategic guidance and overall direction on solutions and closely partners with the Commercial CIO and CFO.

Key Accountabilities

Commercial Data Roadmap & Management Reporting:

Thorough understanding of the business and data strategy
• Collaborates with Commercial CFO and CIO to build and maintain data roadmap
• Provides strategy and manages execution of building a data consumption layer (semantic) in the modern data warehouse to promote ease of use and self-service.
• Maintains/Oversees overall data projects for their respective line of business
• Partners with Chief Data Architect to review and approve proposed architecture for their data assets within a particular line of business
• Provides executive leadership team with periodic updates on data roadmap
• Understands collection, management, and storage of commercial data across an organization
• Fosters a relationship of trust and playing an advisory role in the use of data to improve performance and business-wide strategy formulation
• Provides Management Reporting

Commercial Data Governance & Controls:

• Fully understands commercial data landscape and partners to identify business ownership
• Highly collaborative role and will oversee data governance
• Provides oversight and updates to executive leadership on data risks and issues
• Establish data controls for their respective line of business
• Provides thought leadership on Data Policy, Standards, and Procedures
• Oversees and ensures execution of policy and standards
• Information Owner on strategic data platform(s) to ensure resiliency, security, access, and data flow
• Contributing to data privacy policies and complying with data protection regulations

Commercial Data Team Management:

• Overseeing data management, data analytics, and data governance projects
• Accountable to grow, lead, motivate, and manage the commercial data team
• Develop and maintain communications plan with partners, team members, and senior leadership
• Focused on active coaching and development of data team members careers
• Provide senior leadership on building a data culture across the organization
• Works closely with the technology department in organizing and creating an environment that makes data and information accessible with appropriate channels of access controls

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related fields
• 10+ years' experience in senior data management role
• 5+ years' experience in building/maintaining data governance
• 5+ years' experience in data lifecycle policy and standards
• 5+ years' experience in banking and finance
• 5+ years' experience in managing and leading teams
• Knowledge and experience with PowerBI, SQL, and/or SAS
• Knowledge of industry leading practices in Data Architecture, Analytics/Reporting, and Governance
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with executive leadership
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and lead culture change initiatives
• Strong project management skills
• Result-driven individual, be highly creative and analytical, be a strategic thinker, have an ability to work comfortably in a collaborative setting,
• Comfortable working with business top-leadership and executives
• Highly organized, have an ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects and meet tight deadlines
