POSITION TITLE: Performing Arts Instructor (Dance)

DEPARTMENT: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)

SUPERVISOR: Creative Arts & Education Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Part Time/On Call, Hourly Rate - $14 - $30

POSITION SUMMARY: The Performing Arts Instructor will provide instruction in dance ballet, tap, contemporary, jazz, lyrical and/or hip hop for students of all ages and levels in support of the Kroc Center Hawaii's mission to provide quality educational programs and training in the performing arts.

The candidate selected for this position will follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures and maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.

The Performing Arts Instructor will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  1. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work and interact with a diverse group of people in a positive and productive manner.
  2. Two years dance and/or theater experience.
  3. Demonstrated classroom management skills.



Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:



  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  2. Professional dance or theater experience



ESSENTIAL DUTIES:



  1. Provide individual and small-group instruction to students of all ages with varying artistic abilities; make adjustments to class outlines and/or teaching approach to ensure student development
  2. Provide necessary lesson plans for each individual, group or program to Creative Arts & Education Manager at least two weeks before class is scheduled to begin.
  3. Display interest, dedication, and enthusiasm for improving the community through visual and performing arts education.
  4. Evaluate each student's growth, performance, and performing arts understanding. Provide corrective and positive feedback to ensure progressive development.
  5. Prepare individuals and groups for participation in end-of-the-session events and special performances.
  6. Teach all scheduled classes for each individual, group or program, beginning and ending on time.
  7. Improve and cultivate the performing arts skills of individuals and groups for participation in recitals, competitions, and special performanc
  8. Be present for and assist during end-of-session events and special performances.
  9. Maintain accurate attendance records and reporting procedures.
  10. Organize storage areas and control use of materials and equipment to prevent loss or abuse
  11. Prep and clean up rooms used for classes.
  12. Answer questions and interact with students, parents, volunteers and staff, displaying positive and proactive attitudes, behaviors and language.
  13. Greet, introduce and welcome participants. Acquaint new students with class procedures. Deliver the class in a fun and interesting manner.
  14. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
  15. Maintain regular and professional communication of class schedules, policies, updates, etc., with co-workers, students, and students' families.
  16. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  17. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  18. Attend staff meetings as require
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position requires sitting, climbing and/or balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling, standing, walking, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination, use of vision, pushing/pulling, lifting/carrying 50-76 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings and drive a vehicle.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS: This position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from coworkers, clients, vendors; requires talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

The position requires the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The position also requires the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT: Most of the work will be indoors at the Kroc Center Hawaii in Ewa Beach/Kapolei. Some outdoor work for special events may be required.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS: Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, photo copiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone, 10-key calculator, AED, as well as class-specific equipment such as sound system and portable mirrors.

LICENSES: The candidate selected for this position is not required to have a valid driver's license and insured transportation.

CLEARANCES: The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a criminal history information check. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude employment. The circumstances involved in the conviction(s) will be considered.
