OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Shelter Services, the Janitor will clean assigned areas regularly and assist in maintaining overall standards of cleanliness in the shelter.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Cleaning of all corps shelter building.
  2. Vacuuming all carpeted areas.
  3. Sweeping and mopping all hard surfaced flooring.
  4. Dusting all surfaces including office desks, counters and windowsills, light fixtures, etc.. .
  5. Trash collecting for entire building campus.
  6. Bathroom cleaning of toilets, floors, counters, sinks, showers, and mirrors within the facility.
  7. Replenishing bathroom supplies as needed in common area.
  8. Assist as needed in the dorms, assisting clients with changing of rooms, cleaning out rooms when CT's move out, etc.
  9. Keeping inventory of all janitorial supplies.
  10. Daily communication with all Shelter staff.
  11. Assist with pickup of supplies as needed.
  12. Performing any other work necessary to maintain the appearance, cleanliness and safety of the campus.
  13. Ability to coordinate and manage multiple duties.



QUALIFICATIONS



  • High school graduate or have equivalent GED.
  • Ability to prioritize work and multi-task simultaneous projects.
  • Be cordial, friendly, and professional in carrying out job responsibilities.
  • Possess maturity and confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English is required. bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Have good interaction skills.
  • Interact professionally in all contact with the public and Salvation Army Officers and staff.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Valid CA. driver's license.



SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Education in social services/substance abuse helpful.
  • Some experience with disadvantaged populations, whether through work, volunteering, or being a member of a disadvantaged population helpful.
  • Trained or received training on informal mental health/ substance abuse evaluation is helpful.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • High school graduate or have equivalent GED.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Some experience with disadvantaged populations, whether through work, volunteering or being a member of a disadvantaged population is helpful.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  1. Frequent lifting of 30 pounds or more.
  2. Frequent climbing of ladders, pushing, pulling of mop/brooms.
  3. Good mobility with the ability to climb, crawl, bend and have good dexterity in regard to grasping, reaching, and handling.



EQUIPMENT USED:

Basic Janitorial supplies including mops and brooms, floor-cleaning machines and vaccum clearners, chemical mixing, etc.
