Behavioral Health Adult Embedded Psychiatry

Job Summary

This position aims to provide clinical services to adult primary care patients with behavioral health disorders as part of an interdisciplinary team utilizing a collaborative or alternative integrative care model in the future. This will occur under the supervision of the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences' Director & Medical Director for Adult Ambulatory Psychiatry.

This clinician will provide assessment, develop treatment plans and perform brief therapeutic interventions, including both individual and group evidenced-based psychotherapy. When appropriate, assists patients in applying for and obtaining other social services while providing a safe and supportive environment and adhering to laws regarding confidentiality and reporting requirements. Activities may include responding to potential program referrals, completion of intake documents, crisis intervention, case management, patient advocacy.

The LCSW maintains accurate detailed documentation in an electronic medical record system. Collaborates closely with behavioral health and primary care providers; make referrals to other community and mental health agencies when indicated. Training can be available to learn therapies utilized in the collaborative care model, such as Problem Solving Therapy and Behavioral Activation.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications


  • Three years CSW experience; or equivalent combination of education/experience
  • Experience working with adults
  • Licensed in the State of California (LCSW)
  • Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited university
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary team setting
  • Demonstrated excellence in reliability and attendance
  • Superior communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent time management skills

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience of providing vocational and educational support
  • Bilingual/Bicultural - Spanish or Mandarin
  • Experience in early psychosis treatment or research program
  • UC experience
  • Experience working with SMI population

License/Certification


  • Licensed in the State of California (LCSW)
The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and UCSF Medical Center requires all
Advanced Health Professionals (AHP) to be credentialed through its Office of Medical Affairs &
Governances (OMAG) in order to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both
adult and pediatric AHPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all Department of
Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and UCSF Medical Center sites. Credentialing and approval of
the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days and must be completed prior to the first
working day.
