Raises funds for the operation of The Salvation Army of the Wausau Corps by developing relationships with donors, securing major gifts, and coordinating all fundraising events. Knowledge of The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy, policies, and practices in securing funds from donors is essential to this position. 70% | Donor Cultivation & Community Partnerships
- Works to establish Fund Development Goals by studying The Salvation Army's objectives and needs, and cooperates with the local advisory board and other departments accordingly.
- Guides fund development efforts by formulating fund development policies, procedures, and programs, following legal protocols for major and planned gift acceptance policy.
- Obtains fund development consultation as necessary from Divisional Headquarters (DHQ).
- Identifies potential donors by examining past donation records, researching support given to other organizations, contacting local grant agencies and foundations, and establishing professional
- Cultivates donors by establishing relationships utilizing the Moves Management system as directed by DHQ.
- Solicits funds and pledges by answering inquiries, mailing literature, coordinating personal solicitation with Corp Officer, board members, volunteers, and staff members, and making unique visits, speeches, and presentations.
- Oversees the completion of the annual United Way application, including foundational and corporate grant applications, while working with Social Service Director on government grants.
- Maintains direct responsibility for creating and meeting annual fundraising goals in coordination with Corps Officer.
- Organizes special fundraising and promotional projects such as Christmas appeals and annual fundraisers by setting objectives, targeting supporters, developing approaches, and making
- Develops and directs special events in conjunction with staff and Advisory Board by identifying potential guests, developing announcements and invitations, planning and implementing events, and supervising
- Prepares fund development reports by collecting data, analyzing trends, and summarizing information submitting weekly activity reports to Corps Officer; monthly statistical reports to the Volunteer Coordinator.
- Supervises the direct mail program in coordination with Direct Mail Coordinator at DHQ.
- Process stock donations, bequests, and other major and planned gift donations according to DHQ & THQ
- Membership in local Service Club (i.e., Rotary, Kiwanis, etc.), maintaining civic community connection.
- Assist Corps Officer in preparing and scanning donations.
15% | Marketing
- Develops and carries out a yearly marketing plan for all Salvation Army
- Prepares promotional literature and presentations by creating copy, designing layouts, obtaining graphic art advice, and working with printers and media services as the public relations (PR) point
- Coordinates with DHQ review of publications for branding approval.
- Updates social media and website regularly of local programs and services, including special events, volunteer opportunities, and impact stories.
10% | Capital Campaign
- Project manager for local capital campaign process, including Needs Study, Strategic Planning, Feasibility Study, and both silent and public phases of the Capital Campaign.
- Works with Corps Officer and Leadership Cabinet to identify and solicit financial gifts for the CC project.
- Works with outside Consulting Firms to maintain the project's integrity according to THQ guidelines.
- Communicates with the Corps Officer and Executive Director of Development (DHQ) on project progress.
5% | Board Development
- Attends Community Relations and Development committee monthly meetings providing information on current events, fundraising engagement, and volunteer opportunities.
- Attends monthly Advisory Board meetings; supports CRD Committee Chair or performs as Acting Chair if none is available.
Education: Bachelor's degree required Certifications: Valid Wisconsin Driver's license with approval to drive from The Salvation Army's insurance carrier. Experience: 3-5 years of fundraising experience; CRM system experience (Salesforce preferred). Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities. The Salvation Army is an equal opportunity employer.
