Position Overview:

PRIME AE is seeking a Bridge Inspection Team Leader to be based out of our Baltimore, MD or Wethersfield, CT offices. As a member of our bridge inspection team, the qualified candidate will perform structural safety inspections and load ratings for various government organizations and transportation agencies. In addition, the qualified candidate will assist with developing inspection schedules, scheduling required access equipment, developing and executing traffic control plans, securing railroad access permits, and developing inspection reports. Occasional night work and overnight assignments are anticipated.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review bridge plans and previous inspection reports and plan field operations.
  • Schedule and coordinate field activities with clients, railroads, police agencies, subcontractors, and equipment vendors.
  • Assign and supervise team members during field activities and office tasks.
  • Prepare and implement health & safety plans and traffic control plans and ensure safe field operations.
  • Perform and supervise technical field inspections of complex and signature bridges and related structures as well as highway ancillary structures based on National Bridge Inspection and Federal Railroad Administration Standards.
  • Operate specialized bridge inspection access equipment (manlift, bucket truck, under bridge crane) as required.
  • Accurately document inspection findings with precise notes, sketches, and digital photographs encompassing all defects located.
  • Evaluate seriousness of bridge defects and make on-the-spot decisions as required.
  • Interact with clients, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and equipment vendors in a confident and professional manner.
  • Prepare accurate, complete inspection reports in accordance with industry standards and applicable agency manuals.
  • Ensure all professional licenses and bridge inspection certifications are current.
  • Nighttime and overnight assignments are anticipated.
  • Travel assignments throughout the continental United States are anticipated and travel abroad may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering/Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in CT.
  • 5+ years of Bridge Inspection experience.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license.
  • FHWA/NHI 2-week "Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges" (130055) or 5-day "Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers" (130056) and Refresher (130053) certifications.
  • FHWA/NHI Nonredundant Steel Tension Member (Fracture Critical) Certification (130078) preferred.
  • ANSI 92.24/92.22 Mobile Elevated Work Platforms/Snooper Training.
  • OSHA Fall Protection and Confined Space certification.
  • Physical ability to continuously tolerate harsh work environments, including working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to mentor, and work in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with little supervision.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Availability to travel through the continental US and abroad.
