Job Summary:



Duties of the successful candidate will be two-fold. First and foremost, the candidate will be expected to develop and sustain a robust, extramurally-funded, independent research program. This responsibility includes keeping abreast of the current literature, formulating and acting upon short- and long-term research goals, sustained evidence of rigorous, forward-thinking research including a record of publications in high impact journals, and applying for and achieving extramural research funds. Second, the individual is expected to contribute to the culture of collaboration and synergy by being actively engaged with other scientists and clinicians within the section, and to participate in teaching and mentoring activities. This includes, but is not limited to, active engagement in program- and section-wide seminars, symposia and research in progress talks; participation in collaborative interdisciplinary research endeavors; and mentoring clinical and postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, or other trainees within the laboratory. Third, the candidate should have clinical expertise to care for patients with gastroenterologic diseases.

Key Responsibilities:



  1. Develop novel hypothesis driven basic and translational research proposals
  2. Publish innovative research findings in high impact journals
  3. Submit state of the art research grant proposals to support basic and translational studies
  4. Support research with research grants and philanthropic donation
  5. Provide/support clinical care to children with a variety of gastroenterological diseases.

The successful candidate will join an expanding group of collaborative, dedicated academic pediatric gastroenterologists and hepatologists in a Pediatric GI/Hepatology program at the #3 rated Gastroenterology/GI surgery programs in the United States as rated by U.S. News and World Report (https://www.childrenscolorado.org/doctors-and-departments/departments/digestive/ ). The Section is currently composed of 36 MD and 5 PhD faculty members, 9 fellows in an NIH T32-funded training program, 11 Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistants, and a large team of nurses, dieticians, social workers, psychologists, transplant coordinators and support staff with the common mission of improving the digestive health of children. Highest quality patient care, cutting-edge research and career development and training are all of highest priority. The Section includes specific Centers or Programs in pediatric liver disease and transplantation, inflammatory bowel disease, eosinophilic GI diseases, celiac disease, intestinal rehabilitation, aerodigestive disorders, neurogastroenterology and motility, pancreatic disorders, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy. Salary will be based on rank and includes an excellent benefits package. Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.



  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), or equivalent doctorate degree in medicine (MD/DO) or veterinary medicine (DVM) in a relevant field.
  • Relevant post-doctoral experience (3 years minimum) in an academic or government setting with evidence of development as an independent thinker, including peer-reviewed publications and a record of research presentations.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in developing, preparing, and submitting grant applications.
  • Complementary expertise in a relevant innovative technique(s) (for example spatial transcriptomics, scRNA sequencing, single cell proteomics, specialized organoids, etc.).

  • Excellent communication skills.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Assistant Professor: $204,126- $215,218

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
