About the Job

Position Overview
The Institute of Child Development, housed in the College of Education and Human Development, at the University of Minnesota, occasionally hires temporary and/or casual staff to perform a wide variety of nonacademic and/or academic work responsibilities. The work schedule is temporary in nature, meaning the employee is limited to 67 days or work in a calendar year. It can also be casual in nature, meaning the employee can work 14 or fewer hours per week. Employees working in this position are paid an hourly rate; temporary and casual employees are not eligible for retirement plans, health insurance, vacation, sick leave, or the Regents Scholarship.

All UMN employees are expected to follow applicable public health and safety procedures. Flexible work arrangements may include flexibility in schedule and/or work location. Per UMN policy, work may be done remotely when appropriate and approved by the manager.

Job Responsibilities

Support academic and/or research initiatives of the department (100%)

  • Draft correspondence and send/respond to email communications
  • Organize and track program related documents and files
  • Use computer software programs, such as, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, University Box, Canvas, Adobe Acrobat
  • Comply with university required policies and procedures and complete required trainings as necessary
  • Meet as needed with manager and attend scheduled events and meetings in the Institute of Child Development
  • Monitor goals and progress of the assigned academic program or research project
  • Assist with problem solving, as needed
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years.
  • Ability to communicate with manager and team members over email, phone, and/or videoconference.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Comfortable interacting with children, youth and adults.
  • Demonstrated ability to be personable, flexible, and well-organized.

About the Department:
The Institute of Child Development (ICD) at the University of Minnesota has long been a premier center for scholarship, teaching, and outreach devoted to the understanding and fostering of child development. Founded in 1925, the Institute is one of the oldest departments studying children's development in the United States. From its inception, a key tenet of the department has been to "give away" child psychology. This philosophy has created an environment rich with collaborations, new ideas, and exciting interdisciplinary work. The ICD is housed within the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) and has an undergraduate program within the College of Liberal Arts (CLA).

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $15.25 - $40 an hour; final salary offers are dependent on the candidate's experience, skills, and internal equity within the department.
